The San Francisco 49ers have a bit of a sticky situation on their hands. Nick Bosa, the team's star defensive end and reigning Defensive Player of the Year, has still not signed a contract extension with the team. Fans are hoping that the team is able to work out a new deal with Bosa before the start of the season. That way, there won't be any distractions.

On Thursday, 49ers GM John Lynch gave an update on the contract discussions with Nick Bosa, per Cam Inman. The GM said that there are no updates, but that communication between the two sides are still there. That's gotta count for something… right?

“As this thing gets closer, sure, that becomes more present because people will talk about it more. There are no updates. The communication is ongoing, it’s good, it’s healthy. We’re working to get something done.” — John Lynch, on KNBR.

The 49ers drafted Nick Bosa in 2019 with the second overall pick. There were high expectations placed on Bosa's shoulders, in part due to his family name. Somehow, the younger Bosa exceeded every expectation given to him. Bosa is one of the best, if not the best pass rusher in the league. His presence alone commands the attention of the offensive line. He has 43 career sacks in his first four years in the league.

San Francisco was already able to resolve one of their roster issues by trading Trey Lance to the Cowboys. Can the 49ers work out a deal with their star edge rusher to keep him happy? OR will Bosa be discontent and refuse to sign a contract with the team that drafted him.
