A new team has emerged for the possible services of free agent cornerback Vontae Davis.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Davis flew out to San Francisco on Tuesday to meet with the 49ers.

Davis, 29, is reportedly spending the entire day in the Bay Area after already having visited with the Buffalo Bills and Cleveland Browns last week. The 25th overall pick in the 2009 draft continues his free agency tour after having been let go by the Indianapolis Colts, the team he's played with for the last six seasons.

A potential 49ers-Davis hookup makes sense. As of now, San Fran's corner situation isn't so hot. Fourth-rounder Dontae Johnson and third-rounder Ahkello Witherspoon are the active starters, so shopping for a potential upgrade is probably a good move.

In six seasons with the Colts, Davis picked off 13 passes and broke up 75 intended attempts. He also tallied 225 tackles while named to the Pro Bowl twice, 2014 and 2015.

Twenty-seventeen was a tough one for Davis as he only played five games prior to being benched and ultimately released after season-ending groin surgery was needed. Things did not end on a tremendous not in Indy, via Stephen Holder of the Indianapolis Star.

“It was a disagreement [between me and the team] because I feel like I was demoted because of my health instead of my ability,” Davis said. “That's the disagreement. The agreement is I take full responsibility.”

Still, at 29-years of age, Davis probably still comes equipped with enough talent and will to help an NFL team in 2018 and beyond.
