Summer is upon us and the state of California certainly has its perks during this time of the year. What California does not have is legalized sports betting. Sports fans and betting fanatics are looking to the November ballot so they can vote on measures that could bring California sports betting to their state. If passed, it looks like 2023 would be the year that California can become a legalized state for sports betting.

Now, with all that said, it's smart to clear some things up before we move forward. Betting at race tracks and Indian gaming casinos is already legal in the state of California. However, this vote will allow mobile sports betting and allow fans to bet from their own home. FanDuel provides an easy and fun way to bet on your favorite sports from right on your own couch.

Until this change happens, fans can still go to Indian gaming casinos and place their bets until this change is made.

The State of California will be very similar to when New York legalized sports betting at the start of the new year. This could become an even bigger deal than New York because of how popular the state is in the entertainment industry. Not saying NY isn't, but fans in California don't have to stay up until after midnight to finish watching their favorite team. This change will be great for the state as it looks to build for the future.

According to Gaming Today, California Secretary of State Shirley Weber cleared a second tribal-led petition drive to bring sports betting to California on January 11, 2022. Organizers have until July 11, 2022, to gather the 997,139 or so verified voter signatures needed to get the proposal – called “The Age-Verified Tribal Online And In-Person Sports Wagering Regulatory Act” – on the ballot. California could have four sports betting ballots in the November 2022 referendum.

Who Can You Bet On In California When Legalized

There are a lot of sports teams in the state of California and many of the best superstars in the world play in this great state.

Starting in the NBA with the Golden State Warriors, who are fresh off of their 4th NBA Title in the last eight seasons. Steph Curry did his thing and won his first NBA Finals MVP. Down south is the Los Angeles Lakers who are the home to LeBron James, Anthony Davis, and Russell Westbrook (for now). The LA Clippers formed a new big three as Cali is home to four NBA teams.

In the NFL, the Los Angeles Rams just won the Super Bowl in February. Two of the past title winners are from this state thanks to the Warriors and Rams. The LA Chargers are on the rise after a huge offseason and going back up north, the San Francisco 49ers are still competing with the best of them. There is a ton of superstar talent between those three elite teams.

Now for the MLB, the state has the LA Dodgers, LA Angels, SF Giants, SD Padres, and Oakland A's. Five west coast teams are all in the same state. With the state having multiple NHL teams, multiple MLS teams, and even some of the most popular collegiate teams, it's hard to beat the state of California when it comes to sports talk.

When you put it this way, it's hard to think why sports betting wasn't legalized years ago.

Natives of California, make sure you pay attention to the November ballot.
