Becky Hammon is continuing to dominate the WNBA. She is following up her long career dominating on the court by becoming the head coach for the Las Vegas Aces. After spending years on the San Antonio Spurs coaching staff under Gregg Popovich, she is showing she can lead a team very well.

She is still getting help from her mentor as she shines as a first-year head coach. According to Doug Feinberg of AP, Becky Hammon and Gregg Popovich remain in contact throughout the season. Hammon said that Popovich watches all of the Aces' games and gives her insight.

Whether things were going well or when the team was struggling, Hammon said she talked with Spurs coach Gregg Popovich a few times a week, either via text or on the phone.

“The other day, I talked to him for an hour. He watches all our games,” she said. “He tells me what he sees and what he thinks. That line of communication is very open.”

Popovich has been a terrific mentor for Becky Hammon and a vocal supporter of her coaching abilities. Although she was unable to land a job as a head coach in the NBA, she is thriving in the league she used to dominate as a player.

The Aces have the second-best record in the WNBA despite losing All-Star center Liz Cambage this offseason. Kelsey Plum has blossomed under the tutelage of Becky Hammon, averaging 20.2 points (the second most in the league) and 5.5 assists. She made her first All-Star Game, joining Aces teammates A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young, a fellow first-time All-Star.

Becky Hammon's impact on the WNBA is massive. As a six-time All-Star and potentially legendary coach in the making, she is carving out one of the greatest basketball careers ever.
