It seems like every time Shohei Ohtani steps foot on a baseball field, a new stat emerges that puts him alone in MLB history. The Angels' star has been on fire throughout the summer months, both on the mound and in the batter's box. The result has seen Ohtani slingshot past Aaron Judge in the AL MVP race, and he's now the favorite to win the award, per FanDuel Sportsbook.

As of Thursday, July 14, Ohtani has vaulted past Judge to claim the top spot in the AL MVP race. His odds on FanDuel currently sit at +115. Judge is now firmly in second place with +170 odds to win the award. No one else is truly in the conversation at this point, with Mike Trout and Yordan Alvarez tied for third with +1200 odds. Rafael Devers is fifth at +1800 while Jose Ramirez comes in at +3100.

Ohtani has been elite for the Angels this season, and while the Halos are still something of a laughing stock, none of that can be attributed to the two-way superstar's performance.

This year at the plate, Ohtani has slashed .258/.347/.494 with 19 home runs, 56 RBI, and 10 stolen bases. He's been even more dominant on the mound. Ohtani surrendered his first earned run in over 31 innings on Wednesday against the Astros. On the year, Ohtani has a 2.38 ERA with 123 strikeouts across 87.0 innings. He's 9-4 through 15 starts and has walked just 22 batters, helping him maintain a 0.99 WHIP.

Unless Judge can string together a 30-homer second half of the season, Ohtani may have positioned himself to win the award for the second year running following his unprecedented run through June and July.
