The Los Angeles Angels have been without Mike Trout due to a left hamate fracture for a little over two weeks, and he is currently performing some activities in an attempt to make his return.

Mike Trout is currently back to throwing and doing mobility and grip strength work after having stitches removed, according to Taylor Arrey of The Sporting Tribune.

Angels manager Phil Nevin said that the doctors were able to shave down some of the scar tissue and they are focusing on pain tolerance to make sure that Trout does not exacerbate the injury during its healing process, according to Arrey.

There is no timetable for his return, but Phil Nevin gave an overall update on Trout's progress.

“It's really a pain tolerance thing for now to make sure you're not going to injure anything else in there,” Nevin said, via Arrey. “But they are painful and they do take a little bit of time. Right now he feels really good.”

The Angels could use Trout as soon as possible. They desperately need to win games to avoid becoming sellers at the trade deadline.

While it seems unlikely, the Angels could be forced to consider trading Shohei Ohtani if they fall out of contention. The Angels risk losing Shohei Ohtani in the offseason and only getting a compensation draft pick in return if he signs elsewhere in free agency. Trading him now could help jumpstart a rebuild.

The Angels will have to keep themselves in the race until Trout is back.
