The Chicago Bears beat the Minnesota Vikings 12-10 in Week 12 in a game that featured six turnovers, 11 penalties, and just one touchdown. Justin Fields and company pulled it out on the road, though, and did so in a way that has never been done in the NFL’s Super Bowl era.

“The Bears are the only NFL team in the Super Bowl era to win a road game despite scoring no TDs, having 75+ penalty yards, and losing multiple fumbles,” OptaSTATS reported after the game. “Road teams were a combined 0-46 in the Super Bowl era when doing all that in a game before today (reg & post).”

It was also the first time a team won a game in 2023 without scoring a touchdown thanks to four field goals by Bears kicker Cairo Santo. This was not a pretty game, but it was a gutty win where Justin Fields and the Chicago defense figured out a way to get the win.

What does the Bears' Week 12 win mean?

Bears Matt Eberflus with DJ Moore and Justin Fields after win over Vikings

The Bears Week 12 win over the Vikings doesn’t mean much for Chicago as far as the postseason is concerned. With eight losses, the team is pretty much out of the playoff picture. However, Fields and head coach Matt Eberflus are fighting for their jobs next season, and a win could help them keep their spots. That said, does a historically fluky W really make them any safer?

As for the Vikings, dropping to 6-6 isn’t great. In the top-heavy NFC, though, they are still hanging on to the final Wild Card spot.

Both the Bears and Vikings go on their byes in Week 13 and return to action in Week 14 against the Detroit Lions and Las Vegas Raiders, respectively.
