Chicago Bears president Kevin Warren has made it clear that he wants a new stadium for the Bears, but the process isn't easy. The Bears want a new indoor, lakefront stadium that would allow the city of Chicago to host the Final Four, the Super Bowl, more concerts, ETC. The Illinois House passed a $53 billion state budget for their spring legislative session, but the Bears were not included in the budget.
Kevin Warren feels strongly about getting the Bears a new stadium, but he wasn't disappointed about being left out of the budget as he realizes what a big project this is. It's all part of the process.
“I don't think I've ever been disappointed in anything,” Warren said, according to an article from NBC Sports. “I understand these are big projects. They take time, energy and effort to come together. They're expensive. You have to have foresight, you have to have vision, you have to have wisdom. I understand this is part of the process. I strongly believe we need a new stadium. For Chicago to have never hosted a Super Bowl, a Final Four, a College Football Playoff, these mega-events. We're losing out.”
At the end of the day, Warren is still confident that they are going to get the job done. It might take longer than he was originally expecting, but he thinks a solution will happen and he thinks that the Bears will get their new stadium.
“I'm confident at the correct time that we will come together to figure out a stadium solution,” Warren said.
Kevin Warren wasn't surprised to see the Bears get left out of the budget
Kevin Warren wasn't disappointed when he learned that the Bears were left out of the budget, and he also wasn't surprised. He knows that these kinds of things can take a long time before they come to fruition.
“I would say no,” Warren said in regards to if he was surprised. “Interestingly enough, every jurisdiction has its own way of doing business. This is exactly what I expected to do. … This is an election year. We have people who don't have meals to eat. We have people sleeping on the street. We have a lot of complex issues that we are dealing with. I'm a realist to understand that these projects are not something you do over a weekend.”
One concern among Chicagoans in regards to this project is taxes. People are worried that they are going to have to pay more taxes to be able to pay for this project, but mayor Brandon Johnson has assured residents of the city that they don't need to worry about that now or in the future.
“I’m going to repeat that one more time to make sure that everybody gets it,” Brandon Johnson said. “This project will result in no new taxes on the residents of Chicago.”
Who knows when the Bears will be able to get their new stadium, but Kevin Warren is confident that it will happen at some point in the future.
