Former UFC welterweight Ben Askren and Jorge Masvidal are obviously never going to be friends. The two fought back in 2019 when Masvidal brutally knocked out Askren in record time with a flying knee.
The rivalry was sparked back up this week when Jorge Masvidal showed up to the UFC 272 weigh-ins with a tattoo of his flying knee. Ben Askren went on The MMA Hour and went off on Masvidal.
“It’s kinda what we expected,” the former UFC fighter said. “Yeah, I mean the thing that I get annoyed about is Jorge wanted to fight him after the fight. It’s like, you just had 25 minutes to do almost anything you wanted. You can’t eye gouge and bite, we have a couple of rules but not a lot. So, you could do whatever you wanted for 25 minutes and now you’re gonna act like you want more? Hey, you had 25 minutes, freakin’ do it to him.”
Ben Askren went on to trash Jorge Masvidal's career and brought up his incredible run from 2019 where he went 3-0 with all knockouts. Askren believes we have been seeing the ‘real' Masvidal lately with his losses in the UFC.
“This is who Jorge was, always. Never changed, you know? Unfortunately, he nailed me. Diaz isn’t really that great. So, that was a great fight for him but if you wanna look back at his mixed martial arts career, and people can get mad at me and say whatever they want but these are just facts. Look, he’s lost three in a row. Before that, he won three in a row. Before that, he lost two in a row. Before that, he won three in a row. Before that, he lost three of four, then he won three, then he lost one, then he won three. This is how his career went.”
