For the second consecutive season, the Benedict College Tigers will finish the regular season (10-0) after defeating the Allen University Yellow Jackets 37-9.

Head Coach Chennis Berry expressed his emotions about his team and their undefeated season in a quote obtained by Benedict College Athletics

“This is year 29 for me coaching college football, and I've never ever finished two seasons back-to-back undefeated. It's hard to do, This is a special team, with special players and special coaches. Again, it's a new team and a new season, but our mission doesn't change, and that's to go 1-0.”

The Tigers were dominating in every fashion of the game on offense. Quarterback Aeneas Dennis was sharp through the air connecting with 10 different wide receivers, Dennis passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns on 22-of-34 completions. His favorite target was senior wide receiver Jalen Jones who led the team with 76 receiving yards on four receptions and a touchdown.

After being one of the more dominant defenses in Division II football only allowing 8.5ppg Benedict would be faced with its biggest challenge yet when they were set to battle Allen University's offense that scored more than 35 points per game.

The Tigers were more than ready for the task ahead as they completely shut down the Yellow Jackets high powered offense led by freshman defensive lineman Joshua Barker who recorded 3 sacks Benedict only allowed 306 yards of offense and caused four turnovers holding this offense to just 9 points.

Coach Berry was very pleased with his defense performance and acknowledged that his defense had been looking forward to this game.

“They were locked in to the task at hand today. Allen's got a really good explosive offense. They can throw it around the yard. They've got some skill guys, they've got a quarterback who can spin it. They've got some receivers who can make it happen. But our defense stood up to the challenge. To hold Allen University to only nine points, kudos to our defensive staff and our whole defensive unit, because they played really, really well against a good Allen University offense.”

For Allen University, this had to be a heartbreaker as they controlled their season with this being the last game of the season and major playoff implications riding. Coming into this matchup the Yellow Jackets offense was lighting in a bottle averaging 35 ppg with star quarterback David Wright being the leading passer in the SIAC conference with 2,799 yards.

Their offense could not get things clicking in their matchup with Benedict, Wright was harassed and hurried for the majority of the contest tossing 3 interceptions on 16 of 36 passing for 220 yards. The lone star for the Jacket's offense was Junior Running back Beau Herrington, posting 136 yards from scrimmage with most of those yards coming through the air. Aside from him, the Yellow Jackets offense was stifled by the Benedict defense only scoring 9 points and gaining 306 yards of total offense.

The Tigers will be looking to defend their crown next week against (6-4) Albany State University in the SIAC championship.

As for Allen University, things did not go their way this season but will go into this season with some good and some bad as they have one the more productive offenses in the conference but have major questions on the defensive side.
