Bengals WR A.J. Green is still not practicing due to ankle injury
There has been plenty of speculation regarding the looming return of Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver A.J. Green. It seems there is still little indication that it will happen in Week 11 against the Oakland Raiders.
Head coach Zac Taylor said Green was initially slated to make his 2019 NFL season debut last week against the Baltimore Ravens before reportedly suffering a setback. He remains sidelined from practice with the ankle injury, via Geoff Hobson of the team’s official website.
Zac: AJ Green not practicing today
Green’s lack of participation in practice is hardly an encouraging sign for his status against the Raiders. Taylor has since listed him as being day-to-day heading into week 11.
It remains to be seen whether or not Green’s absence is due to a cautious approach by Cincinnati or some other underlying reason that has to do with their tumultuous 2019 campaign. His future remains murky amidst the current contract negotiations and there has been little indication of any progress being made. The veteran may not be looking to risk further aggravating the ankle injury for a team that is still looking for its first win and may not even be willing to commit to him beyond this season.
Regardless, there is no denying that Green’s absence still leaves quarterback Ryan Finley in desperate need of some more weapons in the passing game. Wide receiver John Ross will still need some time to find his footing after being activated off injured reserve and the injury to tight end Drew Sample leaves Finley without another potential weapon.
