Receiver AJ Green has officially signed his one-year franchise tag with the Cincinnati Bengals on Friday, which is worth just under $18 million for the 2020 season.

In a conference call with local reporters on Friday, Green spoke out about why he decided to sign his one-year franchise tag with the Bengals.

“It's best for me just to go out there and play on this franchise tag and then we revisit this after the season,” Green said, per Ben Baby of ESPN.

Furthermore, Green noted that his love for Cincinnati was part of the reason he had to sign his franchise tag tender.

“I always show loyalty to the people who gave me a chance from the get-go, and Cincinnati gave me that chance,” the Bengals wideout added. “Coming into Year 10 and two injuries and still getting franchise-tagged is kind of crazy. I just hope I can stay healthy and get back to the old A.J. and keep building this thing.”

The Bengals initially used the tag on AJ Green in March, but it went unsigned as Green wanted to work towards a potential long-term deal. However, after spending months of negations, the 31-year-old receiver ultimately decided to sign his one-year franchise tag.

In 2019, Green missed the entire season due to an ankle ligament injury he suffered during the first practice of the preseason. Nevertheless, when healthy, he's one of the top receivers in the league. The Bengals star stands second in career receptions (602) and receiving yards (8,907) in team history.

If all goes well for Green this 2020, he'll certainly get that multiyear deal at the end of the campaign.
