There have been a few former players that have advised Joe Burrow to avoid going to the Cincinnati Bengals with the No. 1 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Despite his name being thrown around as someone who said that Carson Palmer denies he told Burrow to avoid Cincinnati.

“Joe is extremely mature and extremely bright,” Palmer said via The Pat McAfee Show. “It doesn’t give him the credit he deserves to think that ‘well, some old, washed-up quarterback came in and told him not to go there, so he’s not going to go there.’ That’s not the truth.”

Since the 2019 season concluded, it has been assumed that the Bengals will select Burrow with the No. 1 pick. However, due to the franchise's inability to have success, some former players believe Burrow should strong-arm his way out of joining Cincinnati.

Palmer, who was the No. 1 pick by the Bengals in the 2003 NFL Draft, knows what it is like to play in Cincinnati. While he spent eight seasons with the Bengals, Palmer was able to lead them to the playoffs twice. Even though they failed to have success in the postseason, the last time Cincinnati had much success was when Palmer was under center.

With the first-overall pick, the Bengals are likely going to select Burrow in hopes he can help them become a contending team in the near future. As the draft nears, there are typically false reports made pertaining to incoming prospects. That is exactly what happened with Palmer and his comments about Burrow playing for the Bengals.
