The Cincinnati Bengals got their fourth win last Sunday after topping the Miami Dolphins 27-17 to keep them atop of the AFC North division standings. However, the team has decided to make a move in the backfield with the decision to part ways with running back Thomas Rawls.

From Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk:

The Bengals announced that they cut Rawls today. He had been with the team three weeks and played in one game, without getting a carry.

This move shouldn't come as a complete surprise given that he was brought on board to provide more depth in their backfield with Joe Mixon going down with a knee injury that required surgery. This made the team a little thin at the position with only Giovani Bernard and rookie Mark Walton available. Mixon's injury opened up a roster spot for Rawls to squeeze in, but he didn't receive much action in the process.

Mixon returned to the fold this past week, rushing for 93 yards on 22 carries along with three catches for 22 receiving yards and a touchdown. Although Bernard is out for the next two to four weeks with an MCL sprain, Walton has clearly shown enough to warrant comfort in dropping Rawls. This marks yet another disappointing end to a tenure for Rawls, as he has struggled to find his footing since breaking his ankle back in the 2015 season.

Rawls was once looked upon as being the potential next superstar running back with the Seahawks, as he excelled in 2015 with Marshawn Lynch out dealing with back issues. He put together three 100 rushing yard performances including 209 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. In the time that has followed since then, he briefly signed with the New York Jets this past offseason then the Bengals this season. The 25-year-old could have a chance to join another team in the coming weeks.
