The Cincinnati Bengals' Thursday practice was one full of uncertainty. Rookies Amarius Mims and Jermaine Burton, as well as tight end Cam Sample, all had to step away from training due to injuries.

New updates are now out, and it looks like both rookies aren't dealing with anything serious. While Mims was carted off to the locker room with cold towels around his neck, the offensive lineman claimed that he's fine and refused to divulge why he was sidelined from the day's activities (per Pro Football Network's Jay Morrison).

As for Burton, NFL insider Jordan Schultz reports that the wideout suffered “only an ankle tweak” and left practice as a precautionary measure.

No major update has been divulged yet about Sample, who was also carted off the field with an apparent lower body injury. All in all, many reports indicated that Thursday's practice had blazing temperatures. It's highly possible that the heat played a big role in everything that happened, much to the dismay of the team.

More on the Bengals' rookies

Amarius Mims was selected by the Bengals as the 18th overall pick in this year's draft. A 6-foot-8, 340-pound tackle from Georgia, Mims spent three years with the Bulldogs before movng up to the pros. He was part of both the 2021 and 2022 CFP title-winning squads, seeing action as a starter in the 2022 National Championship game. While he may have only played seven games last season, Mims' physical traits give him plenty of upside in terms of development.

Moving over to Jermaine Burton, the wide receiver joins the Bengals as a third-round pick. He played four years in college; his freshman and sophomore years were spent in Georgia, while his final two seasons occurred with the Alabama Crimson Tide. Last year, Burton led Alabama's wideout room, tallying 798 receiving yards and eight touchdowns in 39 catches. He put up an average of 20.5 yards per catch.

Mims and Burton will be joined in Cincinnati by fellow rookies such as Kris Jenkins (DT, Michigan) and McKinnley Jackson (DT, Texas A&M). All in all, the Bengals drafted 10 newcomers back in April.

How do Mims and Burton fit in the lineup?

There's no guarantee that Mims will start, but as the Bengals' top pick, he'll surely have the chance to compete for the spot at training camp. At the moment, the team currently fields Trent Brown at right tackle and Orlando Brown Jr. on the other side. Mims will have to outdo his fellow behemoths if he wants a shot at that starting slot. Nonetheless, even if he comes off the bench, Mims will likely be given minutes for experience and growth.

In the wideout room, Burton will likely be competing for the third wideout spot. With Tyler Boyd departing during the offseason, Tee Higgins — who's currently under the franchise tag — will be the number two option behind Ja'Marr Chase. For Burton to become that third option, he'll be competing with backups such as Trenton Irwin, Andre Iosivas and Charlie Jones.
