The Cincinnati Bengals have reportedly requested permission to talk with current Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive coordinator Todd Monken about their head coaching vacancy.

Cincinnati decided to fire former head coach Marvin Lewis earlier in the week after 16 seasons on the job, and now the franchise will prepare to hire its first head coach in quite a while.

Naturally, the process has started with several names being mentioned as possible candidates, and it sounds like the team's front office has identified another potential coach to take over the role.

From ESPN's Jeremy Fowler:

Bengals have requested permission to interview Bucs OC Todd Monken, per source. No firm date set. He's also interviewing with Jets. Bucs third in total offense in 2018.

Monken has been with the Bucs since 2016, where he took over as offensive coordinator following the hiring of Dirk Koetter.

Of course, Koetter was also fired recently after Tampa Bay went just 5-11 overall, which leaves another head coaching position open around the NFL.

As for the Bengals, they have a solid nucleus in place, and perhaps a fresh voice and some personnel changes may help this team become a contender once again after a disappointing 6-10 campaign.

The biggest knock on Lewis was his inability to find postseason success, so it will be essential that the new coaching staff be able to help the franchise actually win games in the playoffs.

Cincinnati should continue to interview possible candidates, and it may be one of the more attractive jobs available at this point in the coaching carousel.
