Joe Burrow just got PAID big time. The Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback signed a massive five-year, $275 million extension. This now makes Burrow the highest-paid player in NFL history. After months of speculation about whether a deal gets done, it's finally over. Cincy fans can rest easy knowing that they have their star QB locked up.

After signing the contract extension, one of Joe Burrow's teammates had a little fun with him. In an interview, Bengals WR Tee Higgins commented on Burrow's new deal. The star wide receiver jested that Burrow could buy anything… even an island! (video from Jay Morrison)

To be fair, Burrow doesn't seem like a “buy an island” type of guy. He might be more of a car guy or even a collector of sorts.

In any case, the Burrow extension marks the start of a new era for the Bengals. Burrow was the catalyst for Cincinnati's sudden ascent to the highest tier of the AFC pecking order. His resurgent 2021 season and MVP-level 2022 season was important for their success. Keeping him around was vital if they want to continue their success story.

With Joe Burrow's contract out of the way, the focus shifts towards his weapons on offense. Higgins himself is also eligible for a contract extension this year, and he's been excellent for the Bengals. Meanwhile, Ja'Marr Chase will be extension-eligible next season. In fact, the Bengals WR is waiting on former LSU teammate Justin Jefferson to sign an extension to set the market for him.

In a way, both Higgins and Chase are waiting on Jefferson to see what contract he gets. Regardless, keeping both players around should be the Bengals' next priority.
