The Texas Tech Red Raiders and Kansas Jayhawks split the season series, each winning at home. The Red Raiders won more convincingly in Lubbock. Kansas needed double overtime to win in Lawrence, and Tech led by five points with 1:30 left in overtime before Kansas rallied in that game, as Big 12 championship odds analysts know well. When sizing up these two teams before the NCAA Tournament, it's worth knowing that they played on even terms in Big 12 play. That is part of the calculus in a Texas Tech Kansas prediction.

Neither Texas Tech nor Kansas had the official Big 12 Coach of the Year — Scott Drew of Baylor won the award — but Mark Adams and Bill Self both did tremendous coaching jobs this season. Adams took over for Chris Beard at Texas Tech and produced one of the very best defenses in the country. Self took what is not one of his most talented Kansas rosters and guided it to a share of the conference title in a very tough top-to-bottom league. Kansas, if it wins this game, probably will be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. That's a terrific accomplishment (if forged) for a team which doesn't have a large number of scorers and shot creators.

Kansas needs role players to emerge and help Ochai Agbaji on the court. Arizona State transfer Remy Martin was supposed to be a key piece for the Jayhawks this season, but he has not become everything Bill Self hoped he would be. This game and the coming NCAA Tournament give Martin a final set of chances to make a big imprint on this season and the 2022 Kansas team.

Ultimately, both sides in this matchup can identify with each other. The Red Raiders and the Jayhawks are both blue-collar teams. Keep that in mind when you formulate a Texas Tech Kansas pick, based on the college basketball odds.

Why Texas Tech Could Cover the Spread

The Red Raiders and Jayhawks played 90 scoreboard-clock minutes this season, and Tech was the generally better team in those 90 minutes, even though the season series was split at one game apiece. The Red Raiders will also benefit from having endured a tough test from Oklahoma in the Big 12 semifinals. Kansas hasn't been touched in this tournament.

Why Kansas Could Cover the Spread

The Jayhawks have looked awesome in the first few games of this tournament. They are fresh and focused. They are playing a lot better than Texas Tech. It's that simple.

Final Texas Tech-Kansas Prediction & Pick

Texas Tech is a quality team and a top-three seed for the NCAA Tournament, but Kansas is locked in right now. The Jayhawks will prevail.

Final Texas Tech-Kansas Pick: Kansas -2.5
