Are we seeing another Tom Izzo team catch fire in March? College basketball odds experts have seen it so many times before. Michigan State has struggled to become a consistent, cohesive team this season, and yet as soon as the calendar turned to March and the Spartans got into single-elimination tournament basketball, they have started to play their best basketball of the year.
The Big Ten Tournament odds have shifted because Michigan State beat second-seeded Wisconsin, the co-champion of the league, in the quarterfinals on Friday. Marcus Bingham, the Spartans' big man, was outstanding in the final 10 minutes of that win over the Badgers. Michigan State crashed the offensive glass and played the game above the rim, outworking Wisconsin on several fronts. The other really big key to the win over Wisconsin was Tyson Walker, a guard who has not put all the pieces together for a majority of the season but was newly confident and composed versus the Badgers. When thinking about a Michigan State Purdue pick, include Walker in your calculations. If the version of Walker which showed up against Wisconsin is the player Izzo has for this game against Purdue, the Boilermakers will be in trouble.
When thinking about a Michigan State Purdue pick, college basketball fans are wondering if the best version of Purdue is going to appear this March. The talent is there: Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey, Trevion Williams, Sasha Stefanovic. Purdue has a strong starting five. Yet, the Boilermakers lack depth on their bench. Coach Matt Painter has had to tinker with his bench combinations and find a rotation which works. The starters need help at some point, and the lack of development from the reserves has limited this team's capacity for growth.
Purdue, as shown in Friday's close quarterfinal win over Penn State, just can't put teams away. This affects the Big Ten Tournament odds. The Boilermakers will play great basketball for 10 to 15 minutes, but they don't stomp on opponents — not usually. Purdue normally lets opponents get back into games instead of delivering a dagger and leaving no doubt about the outcome. Purdue's on-ball defense is not good enough to win a championship. The Boilermakers will need the right matchups to advance in March, and with Michigan State finding momentum under Tom Izzo, this game for Purdue will be a challenge.

Why Michigan State Could Cover the Spread
The Spartans are hot. It's March. It's Tom Izzo. You know the drill. Purdue is unreliable. That's also a part of March Madness.
Why Purdue Could Cover the Spread
The Michigan State team Purdue is playing will be competing in a third game in three days. Purdue should be fresher than Michigan State, and that will show up in the game's final 10 minutes.
Final Michigan State-Purdue Prediction & Pick
Purdue, which recently lost to Michigan State, will probably get revenge, but not in a blowout. MSU is playing too well to be picked against with a spread of nearly seven points. Purdue wins by four.
Final Michigan State-Purdue Pick: Michigan State +6.5
