The Toronto Blue Jays are on the west coast to take on the Los Angeles Dodgers. This game will continue our MLB odds series as we hand out a Blue Jays-Dodgers prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game.

The Blue Jays are currently in third place in the AL East division. It is a tough division and they sit 6.5 games back. Toronto has won six of their last 10 games, but have lost their last two series. Toronto is the last wild card team right now, but they are not far ahead of the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees. The Blue Jays need to start piling on some wins as August and September approach.

The Dodgers have taken back their spot at the top of the NL West, and they refuse to lose it again. The Dodgers have a four game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks and they will want to extend that lead as the season progresses. Los Angeles has won seven of their last 10 games, and are coming off a weekend series win in Texas.

Jose Berrios will be the starting pitcher for the Blue Jays in this series opener. Michael Grove will get the ball for the Dodgers.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

Berrios has been one of the best pitchers in July. In three starts, Berrios has thrown 18 1/3 innings, allowed just three runs on 12 hits, and struck out 19. Berrios has his toughest task of the month with the Dodgers, but he should be up for the challenge. Los Angeles is bottom half of the league in batting average, but they do have the second most home runs. Their run production comes from the long ball, but Berrios is very good at limiting home runs. As a ground ball pitcher, it is very tough for hitters to get under the ball with some power off Berrios. With Berrios on the mound, the Blue Jays have a great chance to open up the series with a win.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover The Spread

Grove has been having himself a fine month of July as well. The Dodgers have won all three of his starts, and Grove has a 3.60 ERA in 15 innings pitched. He does tend to give up hits, but has done well limiting the damage. The Dodgers will need to back him up on defense, but Grove should be able to have a decent game in this one.

The Dodgers have been on fire in July. In 17 games played, they have scored 113 runs, and they have 66 extra base hits. Their bats have been dominating opposing pitchers and it is a big reason why they have been able to regain the top spot in the division. Los Angeles scored 31 runs over the weekend against a very good Rangers team, so the offense is still on fire. If the Dodgers can continue to be relentless on offense, they should have no problem covering the spread.

Final Blue Jays-Dodgers Prediction & Pick

Just looking at the pitching matchup, my gut leans towards the Blue Jays. Berrios has been very good, and he should be able to keep the Dodgers in check. The Blue Jays have one of the better offenses in the league, and Grove will give up some hits. I expect the Blue Jays to win this game and cover the spread.

Final Blue Jays-Dodgers Prediction & Pick: Blue Jays -1.5 (+160), Under 9.5 (-122)
