Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever have had four days off. The Fever have played 11 games so far this season, and they packed those 11 games into just under three full weeks. The Fever had to play a lot of games in a short period of time. The grueling nature of the schedule certainly has played a role in the Fever not being as good as they can be. A team which needs practice time and a chance to learn how to play together has been playing so many games that it hasn't had the ability to hit the practice court with great regularity. Now, with four days off heading into this game in Washington against the Mystics, the Fever might finally be refreshed both physically and mentally. Everyone in and around the organization is hoping that some extended rest will enable this team to hit the reset button and begin to play better basketball starting with this game on Friday night.
The Fever certainly have a decent chance of winning. They're playing the one WNBA team with a worse record. The Washington Mystics still haven't won a game this season. They have come close a number of times, but their Thursday loss at home against the Chicago Sky is easily their most painful setback of the year. The Mystics led by nine points and halftime and then led by 13 points a few minutes into the second half. Victory finally seemed to be within this team's grasp.
Then everything fell apart.
The Mystics allowed a 14-0 run to the Sky. Chicago took the lead in the third quarter and outscored Washington 25-10 in that quarter. The Sky then extended their lead in the fourth quarter and ultimately won 79-71. Can the Mystics rebound from a discouraging loss? Can Indiana take advantage of this unique opportunity against a team which simply can't figure out how to win?

Why The Fever Could Cover The Spread
Caitlin Clark needed the rest. Her team did too. Indiana was playing one game after another without being able to take a few days off to reassess, tweak some schemes, consider some new lineup rotations, and make the big-picture adjustments needed to get the most out of the roster. A four-day break is exactly what this team needed.
That point aside, Indiana is playing the one team in the WNBA which has a worse record. The Mystics keep finding new ways to lose. Blowing a 13-point third-quarter lead is something they hadn't previously done this season. Indiana just needs to beat a winless team by one bucket to cover the spread. That seems reasonable.
Why The Mystics Could Cover The Spread
The Fever are a very bad team. After their four-day break, they might be rusty in the first half. The Mystics are angry about losing that 13-point lead to Indiana. They should come out of the tunnel fired up. It would shock no one if Washington won this game.
