Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever take on the Connecticut Sun. Our WNBA odds series has our Fever Sun prediction, odds, and pick. Find out how to watch Fever Sun.
Here we go. The Caitlin Clark show, after a few preseason tune-up games, begins for real in the WNBA regular season. Cast aside for a moment how good the Indiana Fever will be in 2024. The main story attached to Caitlin Clark's arrival in the WNBA is that she is poised to change the economics of women's professional basketball in ways which will enable the WNBA to finally take off as a commercial product. Clark has cracked the code in terms of selling tickets and drawing television eyeballs. She is a money-printing machine and a true mega-attraction. She is filling arenas and is television ratings gold. The Fever are going to be on national television nearly every game they play this season. Clark is already generating the increased revenue streams which, if sustained over time, will lead to higher average salaries for the WNBA's player base.
A lot of national headlines have been generated by the fact that Caitlin Clark's salary as a No. 1 WNBA draft pick pales in comparison to what an NBA bench player makes, let alone a No. 1 NBA draft pick. A lot of people have claimed that Clark should be paid more, implying that she is not being treated well. They are missing the point. The WNBA as a business has not grown or developed to the extent that Clark and other top draft picks can receive a competitive salary when measured against NBA players. The business has to grow in order for salaries to rise in value across the league. Clark's revenue-generating power could eventually crack open the door and enable the business of women's professional basketball to finally reach that higher tier. That, in many ways, is going to be as big a story in 2024 as anything the Indiana Fever do on the court.
In terms of on-court plot points, the Fever could have the WNBA Rookie of the Year in back-to-back seasons. Aliyah Boston was the Rookie of the Year in 2023. Clark is the overwhelming favorite in 2024. The Fever are building something, but they now need to find out how good their supporting cast can be. It's a work in progress.
The Connecticut Sun were the third-best team in the WNBA last season by a considerable margin. Connecticut was one of just three teams to finish at least 10 games over .500 (27-13). The Sun had the second-best defensive rating (98.8) in the WNBA and used that to become a top-three team. The trio of DeWanna Bonner, Alyssa Thomas, and Brionna Jones should ensure that the Sun remain a top-tier team in the W this year.

Why The Fever Could Cover The Spread
Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston give the Fever a 1-2 punch of elite young players. If you are reading this article, you're obviously interested in the WNBA and, most likely, just how much of an effect Caitlin Clark will have on the Fever and on the world of women's professional basketball at large. The “gravity” of Caitlin Clark — her effect on the rest of the game and the other nine players on the court (four on her own team, five on her opponent — is so immense that it could throw opposing teams off balance. That is the constant threat Clark and the Fever will bring to every game they play this season. It could be enough to cover the spread if the Sun aren't fully locked in on defense.
Why The Sun Could Cover The Spread
The Sun are a veteran team with a proven defense, exactly the kind of team which is equipped to contain Caitlin Clark and Aliyah Boston. The Fever have promising, young stars on their roster, but the Sun's experience and toughness should come to the forefront early in the season. The Fever's stars will go through a learning process, and the Sun are in position to teach some early-season lessons at home.
Final Fever-Sun Prediction & Pick
Caitlin Clark will be slowed down by the Sun's elite defense. Take Connecticut.
Final Fever-Sun Prediction & Pick: Sun -6
