The St, Louis Cardinals are in the desert to take on the Arizona Diamondbacks. This game will continue our MLB odds series as we hand out a Cardinals-Diamondbacks prediction and pick. We will also let you know how to watch the game. These two teams squared off back in April. The Diamondbacks took two of three in St. Louis during that series.
The Cardinals lost three of four over the weekend against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field. They won the first game, but lost the final three. St. Louis is in fourth place in the NL Central and their season is not getting any better. They have won six of their last 10, though. With the trade deadline next week, teams will have their eyes on most of the Cardinals' players.
The Diamondbacks have been struggling since the All-Star break. They are on a four game losing streak and have won just two of their last 10 games. Arizona is not four games back in the NL West division, but they do hold a wild card spot. The Diamondbacks need to start playing well if they want to keep that playoff spot, though.
Adam Wainwright has come off the IL and will be the starting pitcher for the Cardinals. Ryne Nelson will get the ball for the Diamondbacks.

Why The Cardinals Could Cover The Spread
Ryne Nelson would be a great bet if the Diamondbacks were on the road. However, this game is in Arizona. At home, Nelson has made nine starts, pitched 42 1/3 innings, struck out just 24, and opponents have hit .357 off him. His 8.08 ERA is more than five runs worse than his road ERA. The Cardinals do have some star power in their lineup, so there is a chance for the Cardinals to put up some runs. With Nelson not pitching well at home, and the Diamondbacks struggling in genereal, the Cardinals have a great matchup in this game.
Why The Diamondbacks Could Cover The Spread
With Adam Wainwright on the mound, the Diamondbacks have a great chance to get their season back on track. Wainwright has made 11 starts this season, and has given up less than seven hits just two times. In 51 2/3 innings pitched, Wainwright has given up 84 hits while striking out only 28 batters. Wainwright lives in the zone, but he does not have the elite stuff to generate weak contact and get outs at a high level this season. The Diamondbacks have a great offense, and they should be able to get to Wainwright in this game. If Arizona can drive the ball into the gap and maybe leave the yard a few times, they will cover this spread easily.
Final Cardinals-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick
With both pitchers prone to giving up the big inning, this is a tough game to call. One thing I do expect in this game is for the over to hit. With the Diamondbacks being the home team, and Wainwright struggling all season, I do lean towards Arizona. That is who I will roll with in this game.
Final Cardinals-Diamondbacks Prediction & Pick: Diamondbacks -1.5 (+140), Over 9.5 (-122)
