It is the third game of an NL Central series on Wednesday as the St. Louis Cardinals visit the Cincinnati Reds. It is time to continue our MLB odds series with a Cardinals-Reds prediction and pick.

Game one of the series was on Monday. Paul Goldschmidt started the scoring with a home run in the first innings, just Jeimer Candelario homers to right in the bottom of the inning to tie it up. Will Benson singled home a run in the second and then Jonathan India scored on an error. That would be the end of the scoring, as Lick Lodolo went 5.1 innings, just giving up one run, and Lance Lynn gave up three runs, but just one earned. The Reds would win 3-1.

Game two of the series will be on Tuesday. Kyle Gibson will be on the mound for the Cardinals. He is 33-2 on the year with a 3.81 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. Andrew Abbot will be on the mound for the Reds. He is 3-4 with a 2.68 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP.

Why The Cardinals Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Cardinals are 29th in the majors in runs scored while sitting 21st in batting average, 15th in on-base percentage, and 24th in slugging percentage.  Nolan Arenado has led the offense this year. He is hitting .258 on the year with a .309 on-base percentage. He has ten doubles and three home runs. This has led to 23 RBIs. Further, he has scored 20 times this year. Brendan Donovan has also been solid. He is hitting .228 on the year with 12 doubles and four home runs, leading to 25 RBIs. He has also scored 25 times this year.

Paul Goldschmidt leads the team in runs scored this year. Goldschmidt is hitting .2222 with a .297 on-base percentage. He has six doubles and seven home runs. This has led to 22 RBIs and 26 runs scored.  Meanwhile, Masyn Winn has hit very well this year. He is hitting .300 on the year with a .353 on-base percentage. Winn has just 15 RBIs though and 16 runs scored.

The Cardinals are 20th in team ERA, 20th in WHIP, and 25th in opponent batting average. It will be Matthew Liberatore on the mound for the Cardinals in this one. He has made three starts this year, with 17 total appearances. His starts have gone between three and four innings each time. In total, Liberatore has pitched ten innings in starts, giving up nine runs. Overall, Liberatore has a 5.27 ERA this year in 27.1 innings of work.

Why The Reds Will Cover The Spread/Win

The Reds are 19th in the majors in batting average while sitting 29th in batting average, 26th in on-base percentage, and 26th in slugging percentage. Spencer Steer has been great this year. He is hitting .231 on the year with a .347 on-base percentage. Steer has 12 doubles and six home runs, leading to 35 RBIs. He has also scored 26 times this year. Elly De La Cruz also has been on fire this year. De La Cruz is hitting .245 on the year with a .347 on-base percentage. De La Cruz has stolen 31 bases this year, leading to 36 runs scored. He has ten doubles, a triple, and nine home runs this year, good for 24 RBIs.

Still, not everyone is hitting great. Jeimer Clandelario is hitting just .222 on the year. He does have 11 doubles and six home runs, helping with 20 RBIs. Nick Martini has returned from the minors. He is hitting just .186 this year but has a double, a triple, and four home runs, leading to 20 RBIs this year.

Reds' pitching is 13th in team ERA while sitting 13th in WHIP and 12th in opponent batting average. Frankie Montas will be on the mound for the Reds. He is 2-3 with a 4.61 ERA and a 1.41 WHIP. Last time out, he gave up four runs in six innings. It was the third straight start giving up three or more runs for Montas. Further, the Reds have lost four straight games in which Montas is starting.

Final Cardinals-Reds Prediction & Pick

Neither team in this one is sending a great pitcher to the mound. The Cardinals are sending an opener Matthew Liberatore to the mound for this one, while the Reds send Frankie Montas who has struggled. Still, the Reds have the better offense and the better bullpen. While it may be high-scoring early, expect the scoring to wane throughout the game and the Reds to get the win.
