The Cleveland Guardians began their series at Camden Yards with the Guardians edging out the Baltimore Orioles 3-2. The Guardians were heavier underdogs in Game 2 but escaped with a 10-8 victory. Cleveland will go for the sweep on Wednesday evening with Carlos Carrasco on the mound. The Guardians have been a force this season, leading the American League Central with a 51-26 record. Meanwhile, the Orioles aren't far behind with their record, chasing the Yankees in the American League East with a 49-30 mark. Why The Guardians Will Cover The Spread/Win
The biggest reason for the two-game winning streak over the Orioles is the disparity in the bullpen. The Guardians' bullpen has a 1.80 ERA over their last three games, while the Orioles' bullpen has a 5.46 mark.
The Guardians are rolling along on a seven-game winning streak, and it makes sense when you look at their hitting stats. The Guardians averaged 6.3 runs/nine over their last five games, which is an incredible number considering their averages.
Why The Orioles Will Cover The Spread/Win
Grayson Rodrigues got lit up in his last start, but the good news for the righty is that Carlos Carrasco could also be in trouble in this game. The Orioles are performing well against right-handed hitters over their last ten games, batting .300 with a .368 on-base percentage. They've also averaged 6.9 runs/nine.
Carrasco had a good outing in his last start, but that came against one of the most inconsistent offensive teams, the Toronto Blue Jays. Before that start, Carrasco allowed 12 earned runs over three starts, which could be trouble for the Guardians.
Rodriguez's last outing was poor, but there's reason to believe he could turn it around. He allowed seven earned runs in a game against the Angels earlier this season but then shut out the Yankees over 5 2/3 innings. The Orioles will need Rodriguez to shut down the Orioles for as long as possible in this game so that it doesn't rely on the bullpen.
Final Guardians-Orioles Prediction & Pick
The chances of the Orioles getting swept at Camden Yards are slim, and they can't afford to lose another game as they are just two games back of the Yankees. The Guardians are averaging far more runs over the past five games, but the averages will tell you they are due for some regression. A great trend to bet is a home team on the final day of the series when they are facing a sweep, and it's especially sweeter here with the Orioles being such a great team. Take Rodriguez to have another bounce-back game in this one and get the Orioles their only win of the series.
