The Creighton Bluejays appeared to be on life support late in their first-round NCAA Tournament game against San Diego State. Creighton trailed the Aztecs 62-55 with under 2:30 left. A superb season seemed to be near its end. Given that Creighton was already playing without core rotational player Ryan Nembhard, it was not particularly surprising that San Diego State held the upper hand over Creighton after more than 37 minutes. Yet, the contest was not over and Creighton was always going to fight to the end.

It's amazing what happens when a team doesn't quit.

The Bluejays shut out San Diego State for the rest of regulation and were able to force overtime. In the extra period, Creighton fell behind 69-66, but San Diego State missed a few free throws and the Jays pounced on their opening. They scored the next five points and shocked the Aztecs with a come-from-behind win which lifted them into the second round. When making a Creighton Kansas prediction, simply remember that Creighton has battled through injuries and a lot of inexperience to become a much better basketball team than most March Madness odds experts expected this season. This team has made itself into a very tough out.

The Kansas Jayhawks looked and acted like a No. 1 seed in their blowout of Texas Southern. There was no drama in the Jayhawks' easy win. They took control from the start and did not wait to impose their will or their quality on a 16 seed. It was just the right opener for Bill Self, who has made a large number of Elite Eights in his career but wants to take the next step and get back to the Final Four for the fourth time at Kansas, the first time since 2018 in San Antonio. If you are thinking about a Creighton Kansas pick, one hopeful sign for the Jayhawks is that Arizona State transfer Remy Martin is coming alive in March. He played well in the Big 12 Tournament final against Texas Tech and carried that form into the Texas Southern game. If he continues to thrive, Kansas has a higher ceiling as a team.

Why Creighton Could Cover the Spread

The Jays are getting 12 points in this game. Creighton might not win, but it plays great defense and is overachieving. This is not the kind of team which is likely to get blown out by a Kansas squad which is formidable but not overwhelmingly skilled.

Why Kansas Could Cover the Spread

The Jayhawks looked like a top seed against Texas Southern. If Remy Martin continues to be great, the Jayhawks will cover the spread.

Final Creighton-Kansas Prediction & Pick

Kansas is playing well, but Creighton is — in the best sense of the word — an annoying team to play right now. The Bluejays will manage to cover. Kansas wins by nine.

Final Creighton-Kansas Pick: Creighton +12
