The Montana State Bobcats pulled it off: They became one of several teams in college basketball this season to win the regular-season and conference tournament championships in their neck of the woods. Montana State stamped itself as king of the Big Sky Conference, and unlike other teams which gained No. 1 seeds in their conference tournaments but couldn't finish the job, Montana State did secure an automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament, sending a message about its toughness to those who follow the March Madness odds. Winning the “double” — regular-season and tournament championships — is such an extraordinarily difficult thing to do in college hoops. Rick Pitino and Iona couldn't pull it off. Scott Drew and Baylor couldn't do it. Bruce Pearl and Auburn couldn't do it. Several teams which won their regular-season conference championships fell in conference tournaments. Obviously, this is a much more urgent matter in the one-bid conferences such as the Big Sky. Auburn and Baylor are still high seeds in the Big Dance, but had Montana State lost in the Big Sky Tournament, it wouldn't even be here. Coach Danny Sprinkle is a rising star in the business, something to remember when making a Montana State Texas Tech prediction.

The Texas Tech Red Raiders were seeded third in the 2019 NCAA Tournament, and were shipped to the West Region. They got to the Elite Eight and beat top-seeded Gonzaga in the regional final, going to the Final Four. Guess what? The Red Raiders are seeded third in 2022. They are going West. They could play top-seeded Gonzaga in the Elite Eight. It is deja vu for Tech and head coach Mark Adams, who was an assistant to Chris Beard for the Red Raiders' run to the national championship game in 2019 in Minneapolis.

Texas Tech swept Baylor this season. The Red Raiders defeated Kansas and finished third in the rugged Big 12 Conference. Texas Tech plays elite defense but sometimes struggles to score. The Red Raiders scored two points in the final 9:48 of a loss at Oklahoma State on March 5, which is something to keep in mind when making a Montana State Texas Tech pick.

Why Montana State Could Cover the Spread

Texas Tech struggles to score. That's it. That's the tweet.

Why Texas Tech Could Cover the Spread

The Red Raiders have had plenty of time to rest and refresh for this game against Montana State. Playing on Friday instead of Thursday should help them to play at a high level. If they do, they should definitely cover the spread against a less physical and imposing Big Sky opponent.

Final Montana State-Texas Tech Prediction & Pick

Texas Tech is really good and will be a pain to play against. The Red Raiders will get off to a very strong start.
