The Notre Dame Fighting Irish are on a roll. They have changed the March Madness odds by winning two NCAA Tournament games this past week. Coach Mike Brey, after several rough seasons which had many people reasonably and logically questioning whether he should stay on the job in South Bend, has maxed out with this 2022 group. Notre Dame is spreading the floor, running great sets, hitting the open shots when they emerge, and playing resilient defense against less discipined opponents. The Irish won a battle of football schools on Friday when they thoroughly drubbed the erratic and enigmatic Alabama Crimson Tide. The win was convincing and not particularly close. The Irish shrugged off the travel schedule which had them play in Dayton on Wednesday in the First Four against Rutgers, only to then fly to San Diego for a Friday afternoon game against a rested Bama squad. If the Irish could handle that travel schedule, they can handle another game on Sunday without a flight in between. This team is in a groove and riding the wave as so many double-digit seeds do in March. This is something to note when thinking about a Notre Dame Texas Tech prediction.
The Texas Tech Red Raiders played like an elite team in their first game of the 2022 NCAA Tournament on Friday. sure, the opponent was Montana State, and people will say Tech looked good because the other team didn't mount fierce resistance, but Tech had to show it could score. This team does go into crippling scoring droughts which have limited its ceiling of potential. If Texas Tech can thrive on offense, this is a Final Four-level team capable of beating Duke and Gonzaga in the West region. Texas Tech delivered a crisp start to its tournament journey against Montana State and made a big statement to itself, more than to anyone else in the field. Texas Tech needs to build confidence on offense, and on Friday, the Red Raiders did that for coach Mark Adams, who has done a tremendous job with his group in 2022.
