The Saint Peter's Peacocks shattered the March Madness odds. They pulled off an NCAA Tournament upset which arguably is bigger than UMBC over Virginia in 2018. UMBC over Virginia was a 16 seed over a 1 seed, and Saint Peter's was “only” a 15 seed over a 2 seed, but in terms of the amount of money two schools devote to college basketball, the gap between Saint Peter's and Kentucky is bigger than the gap between UMBC and Virginia. Kentucky is a blue-blood program, unlike Virginia, and the spread for the game was 17.5 points. This is something to think about when making a Saint Peter's Murray State prediction.
What adds to the enormity of the Saint Peter's upset of Kentucky is that Kentucky led by six, 68-62, late in regulation. Saint Peter's answered with a 7-0 run. Kentucky led by three in overtime and had two free throws to build the lead to five. UK missed those two foul shots and the Peacocks took advantage. This is a completely fearless team which played bold and inspired ball. That's exactly what you want to see from a team on the big stage of the NCAA Tournament.
Murray State had an eight-point lead late in regulation against San Francisco. Like Kentucky against Saint Peter's, the higher seed blew the late lead and went into overtime. Murray State, however, regrouped, even after one of its starters fouled out and another came down with a case of cramps. The Racers found other players who were able to step up under pressure and answer the call. Murray State fought past San Francisco on a night when the Dons' superstar, Jamaree Bouyea, was making one spectacular 3-point shot after another. Murray State played an imperfect game and withstood a masterpiece from the opposing team's best player. That shows you something about the Racers. The Peacocks took down a Kentucky team which many people thought was the East Region favorite over Baylor. If a team can beat a Final Four favorite and national championship contender, that same team can beat a No. 7 seed from the Ohio Valley Conference.
Why Murray State Could Cover the Spread
The Racers didn't play their best. They watched a star player light them up for 45 minutes in an overtime thriller, and they still prevailed. That's a tough team with the ability to make a deep run. Murray State is just as fearless as Saint Peter's.

Both teams will be relaxed and confident after their huge wins on Thursday, but Saint Peter's plays such great defense that Murray State will not run the Peacocks off the floor. Murray wins, but by six or seven points.
