The Los Angeles Angels and the Seattle Mariners will conclude a five-game series at T-Mobile Park on Sunday afternoon. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with an Angels-Mariners prediction and pick.

The Angels swept the doubleheader against the Mariners on Saturday. They won the first game 4-2. Mike Trout delivered when the Angels needed him, blasting a two-run home run in the 10th inning to propel the Angels to victory. Patrick Sandoval tossed six innings, allowing one earned run, but ultimately received a no-decision. Raisel Iglesias got the win, pitching a perfect ninth inning in a non-save situation. Also, Jose Quijada notched the save in the 10th inning.

The Angels won the second game 3-0 behind strong pitching and another timely Trout home run. Trout blasted a shot to deep center field in the fifth to give the Angels a 1-0 lead. Later, Jared Walsh delivered on a pinch-hit two-run home run. The blast to right was his 12th in 2022 and gave the Angels the cushion they needed. Jose Suarez lasted 4 1/3 innings but Jimmy Herget was sensational, tossing 3 1/3 innings of shutout baseball in relief. Then, Archie Bradley finished the game with a six-pitch ninth inning.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

The Angels looked terrific yesterday, not allowing the Seattle hitters to do anything. The Angels called up Kenny Rosenberg to start today's game in Seattle. Rosenberg has not pitched well in his two appearances in the majors, both in relief. He allowed runs in both appearances. Likewise, Rosenberg gave up four earned runs on five hits in five innings of relief against the New York Yankees in an appearance a few weeks ago. He will attempt to give the Angels a quality start, as their bullpen has worked a lot over the last couple of days.

The Angels are 16th in bullpen ERA. It has performed slightly better over the last week. but there is still work to do. The Angels will perform better if the offense can sync up.

The Angels' offense is not clicking like it was a month ago. They are 20th in batting average, 22nd in on-base percentage, 14th in runs, sixth in home runs, and 12th in slugging percentage. Trout continues to terrorize the Mariners, as he is 5 for 16 in the series with four home runs. He is hitting .291 with 20 home runs and 41 RBIs. Alternatively, it has not gone as well for Shohei Ohtani. He is 2 for 13 in the series. Also, Ohtani saw his batting average sink to .254 and is currently at 13 home runs and 37 RBIs. Taylor Ward is also in a slump and is 3 for 18 in this series. The Angels need Trout, Ohtani, and Ward to all perform to have a chance in this one.

The Angels will cover the spread if Rosenberg can give them a decent game. Likewise, they need the bullpen to hold the fort. Trout, Ohtani, and Ward need to spark the fire that reignites the offense back to life.

Why The Mariners Could Cover The Spread

The Mariners will go with Logan Gilbert today. Gilbert is 7-2 with a 2.22 ERA. His numbers are what they thought they would get when they signed Robbie Ray. Gilbert went six innings in his last outing, not allowing a run on four hits with six strikeouts. He has not allowed an earned run in two of his previous four starts. Gilbert also has allowed three earned runs or fewer in six straight games. He could insert himself into the Cy-Young award considerations if he continues the pace. However, he needs a bad bullpen to protect his leads.

The Mariners rank 20th in the majors in bullpen ERA. Seattle's relievers have allowed seven earned runs through four games against the Angels. They must perform better to give Gilbert a chance to win. Their offense must pick up the pace.

The Mariners are 23rd in batting average, 13th in on-base percentage, 25th in runs, 15th in home runs, and 21st in slugging percentage. They scored more runs in Friday's game against the Angels than in the other three games combined. Seattle does not have a good offense and will struggle to put the ball in play. Eugenio Suarez is their rock, hitting .230 with 12 home runs and 35 RBIs. Additionally, they have Ty France, who is batting .318 with 10 home runs and 44 RBIs. The Mariners need both to produce.

The Mariners cover the spread if Gilbert gives them another good start. They also cover if they can get to Rosenberg early. Also, the bullpen must pitch a clean game.

Final Angels-Mariners Prediction & Pick

It is difficult to trust the Angels. They play well against the Mariners and have won this series. However, Rosenberg is green and might struggle. The Angels do not rally well, and it is hard to see them achieving a comeback. Expect Gilbert and the Mariners to shut down the Angels in the finale.

Final Angels-Mariners Prediction & Pick: Mariners: -1.5 (+126)
