The Toronto Blue Jays will attempt a four-game sweep as they meet the Los Angeles Angels in Anaheim on Sunday afternoon. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Blue Jays-Angels prediction and pick.

The Blue Jays defeated the Angels 6-5. It was a see-saw affair as four lead changes throughout the game concluded with a Toronto win. It was 3-2 heading into the seventh when Mike Trout came up to the plate with Shohei Ohtani on base. Then, Trout crushed a two-run bomb to straightaway center field for a homer. It was his 13th home run of 2022 and it gave the Angels a late 4-3 lead. However, Toronto struck back in the eighth. Matt Chapman clipped an RBI single that drove home Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Teoscar Hernandez, giving the Jays the 5-4 lead. Next, Raimel Tapia added some insurance with an RBI single to make it 6-4 Jays. Brandon Marsh produced an RBI single in the ninth, but the Angels could not do anything else, falling short.

The Blue Jays are 26-20 and six-and-a-half games behind the New York Yankees for first place in the AL East. Meanwhile, the Angels are 27-21 and two-and-a-half games behind the Houston Astros for first place in the AL West.

Why The Blue Jays Could Cover The Spread

Toronto is on fire. The Jays have won four in a row and are looking to make it five. Additionally, this is a chance for a rare four-game road sweep. The Blue Jays are 101-119 all-time on the road against the Angels, so a sweep is rare. Today, they will roll with Jose Berrios on the mound. Berrios is 3-2 with a 4.75 ERA. He has been up and down in 2022, as he has not lost at home. Alternatively, he is 1-2 with a 5.93 ERA when he pitches on the road. Berrios has the task of attempting to complete the four-game sweep. However, he faces an Angels lineup that is without Anthony Rendon. Also, Taylor Ward has been out too.

The Blue Jays have a solid offense that can go hot or cold depending on the day. Guerrero is one of their greater threats with nine home runs and 21 RBIs. Additionally, George Springer has been amazing with nine home runs and 26 RBIs. Bo Bichette is clubbing six home runs with 23 RBIs. However, this offense tends to go into a funk. The lineup has excelled in this series but struggled last weekend against the Cincinnati Reds. The inconsistent offense is a huge reason the Jays sit in third place.

The Blue Jays will cover the spread if they get a solid performance out of Berrios. He must contain this Angels offense that has gone cold and hold them down. Additionally, the Toronto offense must continue to take advantage of opportunities when they arise.

Why The Angels Could Cover The Spread

Patrick Sandoval takes the mound for the Angels. He is one of the better pitchers on the Angels with a 3-1 record and a 1.79 ERA. Sandoval has had a quality start in four of his seven games. Now, the Orange County native looks to end the losing streak and help the Angels get back to their winning ways. He has the support of an offense that has struggled recently.

The offense has sputtered at times and produced inefficient results. Trout leads the team with 13 home runs and 28 RBIs. Additionally, Ohtani is a marvel at the plate with nine home runs and 29 RBIs. Jared Walsh has been solid with 10 home runs and 29 RBIs. The issue is that these hitters run very hot and cold. Ward was one of their better hitters before his injury, and now his absence has displayed a huge hole in the lineup.

The bullpen has been horrific this week. The relievers blew yesterday's game and were the culprits in Friday's loss. Additionally, the Angels led 3-2 on Friday in the seventh and 4-3 yesterday in the eighth and lost both games. Aaron Loup has had a forgettable two games, as he allowed two earned runs on five hits and a walk. The Angels absolutely cannot bring him in to pitch today. They must go with another option like Archie Bradley or Ryan Tepera.

The Angels will cover the spread if their offense can give them at least four runs. Additionally, Sandoval can give them a great performance. He can last later into the game. However, it will all come down to the bullpen. The bullpen has one job. It is to get the ball to Raisel Iglesias in the ninth with a lead.

Final Blue Jays-Angels Prediction & Pick

The Angels are the heavy favorites here. They have struggled recently, going 3-4 on this homestand. However, Sandoval is a gem of a pitcher and probably the one guy you want on the hill when you need to end a losing streak.

Final Blue Jays-Angels Prediction & Pick: Angels: -1.5 (+168)
