The Blue Jays have won the first time games of this four-game series against the Yankees. Now, the Jays go for another win in The Bronx on Wednesday evening. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Blue Jays-Yankees prediction and pick.
The AL Wild Card race is getting very, very interesting. The Yankees lead the Red Sox by just 1/2 a game for the top Wild Card spot. But now the Blue Jays are back in the mix, sitting just two games behind the Sox for that final Wild Card position. Winners of six in a row, Toronto is hot at the right time and looks to make the playoffs for the first time since 2016 (aside from last season's COVID-shortened season).
Here’s how the bookmakers have set the lines for Wednesday's game.

Article Continues BelowWhy The Blue Jays Could Win
Since the beginning of August, Blue Jays rookie starter Alek Manoah holds a disappointing 5.34 ERA. But his best start in this span was a one-run performance in six innings against the White Sox, while also striking out five batters. Given that the White Sox were the best offense he faced in this stretch, he's proven he can compete against some of the league's top lineups. In fact, Manoah's season debut was against the Yankees, and he was dominant. Manoah allowed two hits, no runs, and two walk in six innings, earning the win in The Bronx. Pitching in New York yet again, look for Manoah to shine once again, propelling to their seventh straight win. The Jays have also scored at least five runs in all of these wins and should be able to have any productive day at the plate against Luis Gil, who is making his his fourth career start.
Why The Yankees Could Win
Luis Gil has had one of the best starts to a career in Yankees history. He has literally not allowed any runs through three starts, a total of 15 2/3 innings pitched. Despite walking seven batters, he has also struck out 18. While his first two starts were against the lowly Orioles and the not-too-great Mariners lineup, he also threw 4 2/3 shutout frames versus the Red Sox in mid-August. The Yankees lineup is also too good to stay flat for this long. They've scored a mere one run in this series thus far, but should be able to pile up some runs early against the Jays rookie starter. Expect this to be a high-scoring game, but not until the middle/later innings. Gil will finally allow some runs – even if just a couple of them – but a bounceback Yankees offense will supply more than enough run support to back up Gil. This has the makings of something like a 8-7 game in favor of New York if the Yanks bats can get going again. I'm expecting a home run from Stanton tonight as well.
Final Blue Jays-Yankees Prediction & Pick
Despite all I said about the greatness of Luis Gil thus far and the Yankees offense probably bouncing back today, it's hard to bet against a team that has won six in a row and is getting plus money. In a slugfest, the Jays win 7-5, with both starters failing to get past the fourth inning. Toronto extends their winning streak to seven games and gets even closer to the Yankees in the AL playoff picture.
