The Los Angeles Dodgers take on the Los Angeles Angels. Check out our MLB odds series for our Dodgers Angels prediction and pick.
Julio Urias takes the hill for the Dodgers, while Jose Suarez will oppose him for the Angels.
Julio Urias has a 3.01 ERA. That's not bad, but it's also not where he was a short while ago. Urias had a 2.48 ERA on June 28 but has run into difficulty in recent starts, especially his most recent one. Urias got crushed for five first-inning runs by the Cubs on July 10. Yes, the Dodgers came back to win the game, but Urias put a strain on the bullpen, something he rarely does. This is a critical start for Urias to reset the dial and enter the All-Star break in good form. The Dodgers are in control of the National League West, but if they want to make a deep run in October, Urias has to help Clayton Kershaw and Tony Gonsolin in a short series. He has been a very solid part of the Dodger rotation. He got the last out of the 2020 World Series. He needs to be a leader, not a follower, for this team and this starting rotation. Elite pitchers respond to bad outings with a strong performance. This is a key test of Urias's place on the 2022 Dodgers.
Jose Suarez has a 4.79 ERA. He has pitched only 41 1/3 innings this season, however. From May 1 through June 6, he made only one start. He has pitched five full innings in only two of his 10 starts. He has pitched more than 4 1/3 innings in only three of his 10 starts. Suarez gets shredded once hitters face him a second time. That tells you he doesn't have wipeout stuff. Hitters are able to adjust accordingly and put good swings on the ball after the first two or three innings against him. Suarez has to figure out a way to make adjustments in order for his career and the Angels' season to acquire a better trajectory.

Why The Dodgers Could Cover the Spread
This doesn't have to be complicated. The Dodgers are a far better team. They have the far better pitcher in this pitching matchup. They have a loud contingent of fans in Anaheim. This really isn't a road game for them (more like a neutral-site game). Shohei Ohtani isn't pitching for the Angels. Freddie Freeman is tearing the cover off the ball these days. Really, you don't have to overthink this one.
Why The Angels Could Cover the Spread
After Julio Urias struggled against the Cubs, maybe he is going to stay in a rut and get shredded by the Halos. This is what the Angels are surely banking on. They're hoping Ohtani can face Urias in a bases-loaded situation and tag the Dodger pitcher for a grand slam or a three-run double. If the Angels win, that's how it will likely happen.
Final Dodgers-Angels Prediction & Pick
You saw how lopsided the matchup between these two teams is on Friday night. Clayton Kershaw didn't break a sweat against the Angels' diminished lineup. Patrick Sandoval is a good pitcher, and the Dodgers tore him to shreds. Let's not waste time thinking about this particular betting pick.
Final Dodgers-Angels Prediction & Pick: Dodgers -1.5
