Game 3 of the 4-game series is tonight as both teams have secured a win so far. It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Giants-Braves prediction and pick.

SF closed out a high-scoring affair last night in the 12-10 win. Pitching was not a factor in that result as multiple home runs were hit from both sides. Matt Olson's second home run of the night in the 9th inning was not enough to complete the comeback for the Braves. These two teams are right next to each other in the conference standings as they are both 5.5 games behind the New York Mets. The Giants (38-29) are third in the NL West behind the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres, whereas the Braves (39-30) are 2nd behind the Mets in the NL East.

Why The Giants Could Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

Carlos Rodon will be on the mound for the Giants tonight. The lefty is (6-4) with a 2.84 ERA in 73 innings this season. Rodon has quietly been one of the top starters over the last few seasons with the Chicago White Sox, and now is dealing with the Giants. His 91 K's are tied for 6th in the majors and his ERA is 21st. With one of the top starters in the MLB on the bump, the Giants have a favorable chance of covering this spread.

The offense was rolling last night, accounting for 14 hits. They will look to keep it going as they face a solid veteran in the opposition. Thairo Estrada leads the team in ABs with 225, and his batting average sits at .267 with five home runs and 26 RBIs. They are getting solid production from the infielder who can play any position in the infield. Joc Peterson and Mike Yastrzemski have a reasonable average as well so if this team can continue to put it together then they will be dangerous once again. The lineup isn't eye-opening but similar to the Tampa Bay Rays, they get the job done.

Why The Braves Could Cover The Spread

Pitching for the Braves tonight is righty Charlie Morton. The veteran is pitching at the same level he has been over the last few years, but there is still time to turn it around. His ERA is a little north of 5.00 in 67 innings this season. He dominated the Chicago Cubs in his last putting, however, so it will be intriguing to see if he continues. In his previous four starts, he allowed four runs in all of them.

The Braves are hot right now offensively. After that huge win streak finally came to an end, the team is still (7-3) in their last 10 games. The lineup is still hurting with the loss of star Ozzie Albies, but the rest of the lineup is stepping up. Olson just smashed to bombs last night and Ronald Acuna Jr. hit one out as well. With these two stars and Dansby Swanson hitting the ball well, there aren't many pitchers that can shut that down.

Final Giants-Braves Prediction & Pick

I know last night's affair saw 22 combined runs, but I don't think that happens again. Rodon is pitching very well and Morton is fresh off of a huge outing. I think the under at nine is a good and safe bet to make in this game. These two teams are very evenly matched, picking a spread winner here might lose you money.
