Why The Marlins Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Miami Marlins are a sneaky team. They have something about them that will ruin betters parlays even though on paper, they shouldn't be that good. They're currently fourth in the NL East with a 40-42 record but still 11.0 games behind the Mets. The Marlins have been pretty middle of the pack when it comes to numbers, putting up 4.30 runs per game and a collective 3.89 ERA. Left-hander Braxton Garrett will get the starting bump tonight as he is showing a shakey 1-3 record with a 4.25 ERA and 1.45 WHIP. He's coming off a fantastic outing against the Nationals on Monday, but what will he be able to do against the Mets? The Marlins have some injury problems, including Jazz Chrishold Jr. and Jorge Soler, but they can still get it done when they need to.
Why The Mets Can Cover The Spread/Win
The New York Mets have been playing some great baseball this season but have slowly started to worry fans with their inconsistency. Right now, the Mets are first in the NL East with a 52-32 record, but only 2.5 games ahead of the Braves. Fortunately for betters, the Mets have been one of the more profitable teams in baseball this season as they are also 46-38 against the spread and overs are 43-35-6 for the Mets. They also have the fourth-highest scoring at 4.84 runs per game along with a 3.90 combined ERA from the pitchers. Carlos Carrasco is set to make his 17th start of the season as he is going 9-4 with a 4.64 ERA. The Mets need to focus on one game at a time until superstar pitcher Jacob deGrom comes back for his season debut.
Final Marlins-Mets Prediction & Pick
As I said, the Marlins are a sneaky team. I don't know what it is about them, but they're a solid .500 baseball club that probably won't make the playoffs this year. With that said, they're a hit or miss (pun intended) in terms of them winning games or not. Tonight is no different. The value in the odds is certainly there, but I have to go with the Mets on this, especially when their run line is listed in decent plus money value. Can the Marlins cover the spread, absolutely, but we're trying to win money and pay for the bar tab this weekend. I can't wait to sweat this one out tonight, give me the Mets run line at -1.5.
Final Marlins-Mets Prediction and Pick: Mets -1.5 (+122)
