The San Diego Padres and Colorado Rockies are set for Game 3 of a 4-game series! It's time to continue our MLB odds series with a Padres-Rockies prediction and pick.
The Rockies took last night's game by the score of 5-3 thanks to Charlie Blackmon's three-run home run. The padres got out to the early lead but the Rockies tied the score followed by the homer. The Friars scored two runs in the 8th inning to cut it to two but Daniel Bard saved the game in the ninth and didn't allow a hit. Austin Gomber earned the win for the Rockies as they improved to (39-40) on the season. Mike Clevinger earned the loss as the Padres fell to (50-39) on the season. San Diego remains in second place in the NL West by 7.5 games.

Why The Padres Could Cover The Spread
Toeing the slab for the Padres tonight is newly named All-Star Joe Musgrove. No-no Joe will start his 16th game of the season where he has been excellent all year long. In 15 starts, he is (8-2) with a 2.09 ERA in 99 innings. His 0.93 WHIP is 6th in baseball and his ERA is 5th. He should surpass 100 strikeouts on the season tonight if he K's up two Rockies. Musgrove is coming off of a huge outing against the San Francisco Giants where he pitched seven scoreless innings giving up just a single hit. If the Padres ace is on his game tonight, then the Friars should cover this spread in the Mile High City.
The Padres offense desperately needs to improve and what better place to do it? With two games to go in the series, the offense has a chance to catch fire in Denver. They scored six in the first game but only three last night. That isn't good enough, especially against a team that doesn't have the best pitching. However, their opponent pitcher tonight is getting the job done this season and shouldn't be overlooked.
Looking for Manny Machado, Eric Hosmer, Jake Cronenworth, and CJ Abrams to light the spark for the Padres offense tonight.
Why The Rockies Could Cover The Spread
On the mound for the Rockies tonight is Chad Kuhl, who has been nothing short of elite all year long. He is (6-5) with a 4.02 ERA in 87 innings. His last two outings have been shaky, but prior to that he has an ERA lower than four and pitched the game of his life against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Back on June 27, he pitched a complete game shutout against the first-place Dodgers. He allowed just three hits all game long and struck out five. If the Rockies can get that kind of Kuhl tonight then they should be able to keep this game within reach.
CJ Cron got the day off last night but might be able to play tonight after a wrist injury. If he is back in the lineup that would be a huge bat for a team facing a very good pitcher. Blackman proved to be crucial last night with his home run in the 6th inning, however, without that then the offense wasn't really there. They need the veterans out there as Kris Bryant is out on Paternity leave. Fellow University of San Diego alum Connor Joe is a pleasant surprise for the Rockies this year as the leadoff hitter is batting .265 with five homers and 21 RBIs. Joe and Blackman will need to continue to lead this team if Cron and Bryant remain out.
Final Padres-Rockies Prediction & Pick
The Padres play a lot better when Musgrove is on the mound. I think that continues tonight but the best call on the board is the under here at 10.5. I know it's Coors Field, but these two starters have been too good to give up a combined score of over 10. If they can stay in the game and not force a long bullpen day, then the under should be a lock.
Final Padres-Rockies Prediction & Pick: Padres -1.5 (-110) & under 10.5 (-108)
