An AL Central matchup is on tap as the Detroit Tigers put their four-game winning streak to the test when they travel to Chicago to take on the White Sox. It is time to check out our MLB odds series, where our Tigers-White Sox prediction and pick will be unveiled for all to see.
With a record of 34-47 81 games through the 2022 MLB season, the Tigers are trying to provide one last gasp of effort before it becomes too late. Currently eleven games back in the division and ten games back of a Wild Card spot, losses cannot be afforded in the city of Detroit. Tasked with keeping the winning streak alive on the mound will be RHP Beau Brieske, who has struggled with a 1-6 record and a 4.54 ERA in his 13 games started on the year.
Fortunately for Chicago, they are in a much better position than the Tigers at the moment but are still needing to kick things into high gear to firmly put themselves into playoff position. Winners in four of their last six outings, the White Sox will call upon righty Dylan Cease who has been nearly un-hittable against Detroit throughout his career.

Why The Tigers Could Cover the Spread
While the sample size over the course of the season has not been that great, the past four games have the Tigers feeling very encouraged moving forward as the season continues to progress. In addition, the last time these two divisional rivals faced off on the diamond, the White Sox pummeled the ‘Cats 13-0 and ultimately left a bitter taste in Detroit's mouth for the past month. Can Detroit get their revenge on Thursday night?
To begin, the Tigers boast arguably one of the worst hitting rosters in all of baseball. With only 259 runs scored on the season, which is dead last in the majors, the reason that Detroit has struggled so frequently is that they have the hardest time in finding production at the plate. The Tigers also rank in the bottom five of the league in batting average, on-base percentage, and slugging percentage. It surely has not been a pretty sight.
However, names like SS Javier Baez and even veteran and future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera can provide some firepower when given the opportunity. Not to mention, but the Tigers have also found a resurgence in the runs department by combining for 19 runs in their previous two wins.
With this team isn't expected to cover many spreads thanks to their offense, the Tigers have shown flashes of brilliance on the mound. A healthy 4.00 ERA as a team will certainly do the trick, as teams are also only slashing .240 against them.
Brieske will need to right his wrongs in a hurry. His road numbers have been a big concern, as the 24-year-old righty from Chandler, Arizona is 0-5 with a 6.09 ERA in seven road outings.
Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread
Hovering around the .500 mark for a majority of the season-long campaign up to this point, the White Sox are more than eager to finally see their record with more wins than losses. At 39-41, the perfect opportunity presents itself on Thursday for the start of this series.
The biggest thing that Chicago has going for them? How about Dylan Cease and his utter dominant ways when suiting up against the Tigers. Cease has already logged eleven starts versus Detroit and has remarkably never been defeated. He is 10-0 with a 1.91 ERA over that stretch. Over his past 39 innings pitched, Cease has only surrendered two earned runs over the course of his last seven outings.
It hasn't been just Cease that has put the Tigers in their place. As a team, the White Sox have outscored Detroit 42-9 during the season and have won five consecutive matchups against them in 2022.
The White Sox have shown glimpses of being able to hit the ball too, as Chicago has the fifth-highest batting average at .256 in the league. Slugger Eloy Jimenez is also finally back in the lineup after being out with a hamstring injury that kept him sidelined since April 23rd. In his first game back, Jimenez clubbed a two-run homer in helping the White Sox defeat the Twins 9-8 on Wednesday.
Final Tigers-White Sox Prediction & Pick
The once-great Benjamin Franklin once said that nothing in this world is more certain than death and taxes. If he was still alive today, he would include Dylan Cease always finding a way to beat the Tigers as a part of that equation. Will today finally be the day that the Tigers get to Cease? Consider it highly unlikely. Chicago defends home field and snaps the Tigers' four-game winning streak in the process.
Final Tigers-White Sox Pick: White Sox -1.5 (-120)
