The Boston Red Sox will host the New York Yankees for a three game series set to kick off on Friday night. It’s time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Yankees-Red Sox prediction and pick.

The Yankees are finally finding their way as now they only trail the Boston Red Sox by four games in the AL East. Boston's offense has been stellar this season, but they have been reeling of late. They have lost two straight series heading into this exciting rivalry matchup. New York has an opportunity to pull within one game of Boston when it is all said and done.

Here’s how sportsbooks have set the opening Yankees-Red Sox odds.

MLB Odds: Yankees-Red Sox Odds

New York Yankees -1.5 (+124)

Boston Red Sox +1.5 (-144)

Over 10 Runs (-116)

Under 10 Runs (-104)

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread

The New York Yankees still have some ground to cover, but they are certainly turning things around right before our eyes. The Yankees are 7-2 over their last nine games and will be coming off one of the best wins of their season. New York defeated the Royals 8-1 on Thursday thanks to three long balls and some timely hitting with runners in scoring position. They are now just four games back of the Red Sox with three opportunities to continue climbing.

Although the Yankees scoring output is still low on the season, they have been rapidly improving over the past few weeks. They are currently averaging 4.05 runs per game, which is good for 20th in the Majors. New York has scored at least five runs in six of their last nine games to date. Their pitching staff has been elite with top 10 numbers across the board this season.

New York will turn to right-hander Domingo German for the series opener. German has had a mediocre season with a 4-4 record and 4.17 ERA through 13 starts. The tall right-hander has struggled over his past couple of starts with 11 earned runs allowed over 8.1 innings of work. He did deliver a quality start against the Red Sox on June 6, tossing 5.2 innings of one-run ball.

Why The Red Sox Could Cover The Spread

The Boston Red Sox have lost their lead in the AL East and now trail the Tampa Bay Rays by a half game. The Yankees are also trailing the Red Sox by just four games, which means that Boston is in danger of free falling. Boston is still in position to regain control of the division over the weekend, but they will have to take care of business at Fenway Park against a surging Yankee club.

The Red Sox have found a ton of success this season behind one of the most potent lineups in all of baseball. Boston currently scores 4.97 runs per game, which is the sixth-best mark in the Majors. They've been slightly better at Fenway Park with five runs per game this season as well. Their pitching staff hasn't been terrific and has been really struggling of late. The Red Sox allow 4.56 runs per game, which is good for 18th in baseball.

Boston will turn to left-hander Martin Perez for the series opener. Perez has had a productive season despite some inconsistencies. The southpaw is currently 5-4 with a 4.32 ERA through 14 starts. The Red Sox starter has struggled of late with 12 earned runs allowed over 8.1 innings of work. He did have a nice bounce-back start against the Royals after two horrible starts that didn't see Perez get into the third inning.

Final Yankees-Red Sox Prediction & Pick

I like the New York Yankees to roll into Fenway Park and defeat the Boston Red Sox in the first game of this weekend series. The Yankees are really starting to click thanks to the improved play of Gary Sanchez and Giancarlo Stanton. Aaron Judge has been doing his thing and Luke Voit hasn't skipped a beat since returning from the IL. New York is finally hitting again and when they hit their stride, we'll be riding with them far more often. Boston's offense has gone ice-cold over the past two games and I don't see Martin Perez being able to hold down the fort until they get going again.

FINAL PICK: New York Yankees ML (-118)
