The New York Yankees will try to win three of four games as they finish the series with the Chicago White Sox on the southside. It's time to continue our MLB odds coverage with a Yankees-White Sox prediction and pick.
The White Sox defeated the Yankees 3-2 on Saturday. Chicago led 1-0 heading into the third inning when Yoan Moncada crushed the first pitch he saw into the seats in center field to put the Sox up 2-0. It was his second home run in 2022. Later, the Yankees responded in the eighth when Giancarlo Stanton put the Yanks on the board with an RBI single. It cut the deficit to 2-1. Liam Hendricks shut the lineup down in the eighth and returned to the mound in the ninth, attempting to complete a five-out save.
However, Hendricks walked Joey Gallo before allowing a single Isiah Kiner-Falefa. Kyle Higashioka hit a sacrifice fly to tie the game, but Hendricks kept it tied. Then, Aroldis Chapman entered the game in the ninth to try and preserve the tie. Tim Anderson singled with one out, and then Chapman walked Moncado. Next, it was Luis Robert‘s turn. Robert fired a single to right past Anthony Rizzo's diving attempt to win the game in walk-off fashion.

Why The Yankees Could Cover The Spread
New York has dominated this series with good hitting and excellent pitching. They will turn to Nestor Cortes on the hill. Cortes is 1-1 with a 1.41 ERA in six starts. He produced his best start in 2022 against the Texas Rangers last week. In that start, Cortes tossed 7 1/3 innings of shutout baseball and struck out 11 batters. However, he also walked three hitters and could not complete the game due to a high pitch count. Cortes will look to build off that momentum in a Sunday afternoon melee in South Chicago. He will have some offense as a backup.
Stanton, Gallo, Aaron Judge, Anthony Rizzo, Josh Donaldson, and Joey Gallo are the pillars of this offense. Judge went 1-3 yesterday, while Rizzo went 1 for 4. Also, Donaldson went 1 for 4. New York did leave eight runners on base, which hurt them in the end. Now, the Yankees and their all-start hitters look to bounce back and turn it loose against the Sox. They scored 15 on Thursday and 10 on Friday before teetering out yesterday.
The Yankees will cover the spread if they get a quality start from Cortes and their bats get hot again. Also, look for the Yankees to capitalize on any mistakes the Sox make. New York has the best record in the AL due to their spectacular offense and quality pitching.
Why The White Sox Could Cover The Spread
Chicago scraped by New York but has otherwise struggled against them throughout the series. The Sox will turn to Michael Kopech on the hill. Kopech is 0-0 with a 0.93 ERA in 2022. He has not won or lost a game mainly due to inefficient run support. Now, he must face the most treacherous lineup he has faced this season. He tossed six innings, allowing one run (zero earned) in his last start against the Cleveland Guardians. Now, he looks to secure that elusive first win and give Chicago the boost it needs. However, he will need something from his offense.
The Chicago offense is struggling in 2022. The White Sox rank 23rd in batting average and 28th in on-base percentage. Anderson and Robert are their best hitters. Anderson is batting .339 with four home runs and 12 RBIs, while Robert is batting .296 with four home runs and 11 RBIs. Alternatively, Jose Abreu is struggling. He is batting .203 with three home runs and 12 RBIs. These numbers are much lower than his career averages, and many wonder if he can break out of the slump.
The White Sox will cover the spread if Kopech can give them six quality innings and keep his team in the game. Additionally, the offense must score more than three runs to beat a loaded Yankees team. Chicago cannot make mistakes that could cost them the game.

Many predicted the Yankees and White Sox to be among the game's best before the season started. However, only New York has performed to those expectations as Chicago has hovered around .500. The Yankees are playing better baseball right now, and it gives them the edge in this matchup. Expect the Yankees to win this game and cover the points.
