The New York Yankees will take on the Chicago White Sox on Friday night. It's time to continue our MLB odds series and make a Yankees-White Sox prediction and pick.

The Yankees have established themselves as one of the best teams in the entire MLB. New York is 23-8 on the year, in large part because of an impressive 11-game winning streak earlier in the season. Now they'll continue their series against a White Sox team that has largely been disappointing. Chicago was expected to be one of the better teams in the league this year, but they've only earned a 15-15 record so far. This series against the Yankees is a huge chance to turn the season around for Chicago, so let's get into the pick.

Why The Yankees Could Cover the Spread

The Yankees will have star pitcher Gerrit Cole on the mound for this game. Cole has rebounded well from a tough 2021 season, pitching elite baseball throughout the start of this year. He's posted a 2.67 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP, two of the best numbers in the MLB. If Cole didn't get shelled in his first couple of outings, his numbers would be even better. The righty gave up three runs over four innings to the Boston Red Sox to open the season and followed that up with a similar performance against the Toronto Blue Jays. However, Cole's recent starts have been absolutely fantastic. He's only allowed a single run over the last 19 innings pitched. Now he faces a White Sox offense that hasn't gotten much of anything going recently.

Unsurprisingly, the Yankees are one of the best offensive teams in the MLB. They rank inside the top 10 in baseball in batting average, OBP, OPS, and slugging percentage. They've scored more than five runs in each of their last three contests, including a 15-run explosion against Chicago on Thursday night. New York should continue to play elite offensive baseball in this game against White Sox starter Vince Velasquez.

Why The White Sox Could Cover the Spread

While Cole has been elite recently, there's reason to believe the White Sox can have some measure of success against him. Several batters in the Chicago lineup have a career batting average over .300 against Cole. The White Sox have also improved massively at the plate recently, as their numbers in the month of May are much better than their stats from April. Chicago has improved their batting average from .212 to .250 over the last ten games, with similarly large jumps in OBP, OPS, and slugging percentage.

Home field advantage will help out the White Sox pitching staff in this game. The Yankees have been a worse offensive team whenever they play on the road, as they see a drop in nearly every single important offensive stat. Chicago starter Vince Velasquez has also been far better at home than on the road. The righty sees his ERA drop from 6.48 on the road to 2.51 in Guaranteed Rate Field. This game should be closer than most expect.
