The Memphis Grizzlies will take on the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Grizzlies-Timberwolves prediction and pick.
This is the perfect game to help bring the NBA back from the All-Star break. These are two of the most exciting teams in the league, largely because of the young star power present on both sides. Grizzlies guard Ja Morant is in the middle of a downright prolific season, while Minnesota center Karl Anthony-Towns continues to play like one of the best players at his position in the entire league. With both of these teams playing good basketball, it's possible that this game ends up being a preview for a playoff series.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread
Article Continues BelowMemphis entered the All-Star Break as one of the hottest teams in the NBA, in large part due to their offense. The Grizzlies score nearly 114 points per game while making the third-most field goals per game in the league. Memphis also hasn't scored less than 119 points in any of their last eight contests. Here, they'll face an easily exploitable matchup in the Timberwolves' defense. Minnesota allows a whopping fourteen fast break points per game, one of the worst numbers in the league. The Grizzlies score the most fast-break points per game, averaging nearly seventeen. The T-Wolves also allow their opponents to shoot 53% from inside the arc, another area the Grizzlies are strong in.
While Memphis has a great record, their numbers against the spread are even better. The Grizzlies are 40-20 ATS this season, which is easily the best record in the NBA. They're also 22-8 against the spread on the road and 9-2 when they enter the game as road favorites. The Grizzlies have been covering in games like this one with consistency.
Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread
Minnesota's offense isn't so different from Memphis's. The Timberwolves are one of the better fast break teams in the league, and use the pace they play with to put up the fourth-most shots per game in the NBA, and the most three-point attempts per game. The Grizzlies don't shoot that many threes as a team, so the volume of three-pointers from Minnesota could create problems. Both teams will be chucking up tons of shots here, but the Timberwolves' tendency to shoot more from deep should help them keep things close in this game, especially because the Grizzlies allow opponents to shoot 35% from three.
Home court advantage will certainly play a part in this matchup. Minnesota is 17-11 on their home court compared to a 14-17 record anywhere else. They're also 14-13-1 against the spread when they play in Target Center. The last time the Grizzlies came to Minnesota, the T-Wolves destroyed them by 43 points. Look for Minnesota to defend their home court in a similar fashion here.
Final Grizzlies-Timberwolves Prediction & Pick
This spread is too small to justify a pick on the underdog. Memphis is the better team, and their track record against the spread is fantastic. Lock in the Grizzlies here.
