Minnesota Timberwolves: -9 (-108)

Why The Magic Could Cover The Spread

The Orlando Magic have been having a very tough season. Their only win of the season has, ironically, come against one of the best teams in the NBA. After losing by 25 to the Knicks, the Magic managed to take down New York two days later. However, Orlando has been able to carry the momentum from that win into any other games. The Magic have lost their last four and will look to turn things around against Minnesota.

The Magic lack a leader and a star, but there have been some promising players. Headlining the team's emerging talent is Cole Anthony. Orlando drafted Anthony with the 15th overall pick in the 2020 draft. The second year guard has been showing significant improvement this season. He is averaging nearly 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. Anthony is shooting the ball well and getting a lot of playing time. Anthony was a crucial part of their victory against New York,  if Orlando hopes to win on Monday they will need him to step up.

Another bright spot that the Magic are hopeful about is Franz Wagner. Wagner was selected 8th overall in the 2021 draft. The rookie has been having a solid season and will look to keep improving. He is averaging nearly 14 points a game and has been given an opportunity to be an impact player on this team. Wagner averages over 32 minutes of playing time per game. If Wagner can continue to progress and develop into a solid player then the Magic should feel good about the future.

Why The Timberwolves Could Cover The Spread

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a good basketball team. They are coming off a very disappointing loss to the Nuggets. Minnesota couldn't hold on to their lead and ended up losing by two. However, the Wolves have shown that they are for real this year. Minnesota can compete with the best teams in the NBA and will look to continue their success on Monday. The Magic are a worse team than the Wolves. Minnesota should be able to take care of business.

The leader and face of the Timberwolves is Karl Anthony Towns. KAT is one of the leagues best centers. The only negative in his career has been injuries. But when he plays he dominates. KAT is having a great season this year averaging over 25 points and nearly 8 rebounds per game. The Magic don't really have anyone that can compete with KAT. If the big man gets going then it will be a long night for Orlando. KAT could potentially have a huge game against the Magic and will play a big role in helping Minnesota secure a win.

A bright spot for this Minnesota team has been the development of Anthony Edwards. Edwards started his rookie year of slow but finished off very strong. He has brought that momentum into this season. The sophomore guard has been averaging 23 points and  over 8 rebounds a game. He is one of the best players on this team and has taken a big step in the right direction. If Anthony Edwards can continue to improve then Minnesota is a serious threat for making a playoff run. They have the talent to succeed in this league and should have no problem dismantling the Magic.

Final Magic-Timberwolves Prediction & Pick

This game shouldn't be close. The Timberwolves are a much better team than the Magic. Minnesota has legitimate playoff hopes while Orlando is likely going to end up with a top draft pick. However, this pick is made a bit tougher by the margin of the spread. Even though it's a wide spread, the Magic have lost four games by 9 or more points and some of those losses came to opponents even worse than the Wolves. Pick Minnesota to win and cover and get ready for the Wolves to dominate.
