The Denver Nuggets and San Antonio Spurs will play on Thursday night in a Western Conference matchup. It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Nuggets-Spurs prediction and pick.

The Nuggets and Spurs will meet on Thursday as each team searches for a much needed win. The Spurs have lost two straight after a brief winning streak, and are at risk of falling out of the Western Conference playoff picture if they continue to rack up the losses. San Antonio is 8-15 this season and just 4-7 at home. Denver is 12-12 on the season as injuries have hindered their chance at getting off to a hot start this season. Nikola Jokic is again playing at an MVP level but Denver is down Jamal Murray and Michael Porter Jr., which has put extra pressure on Jokic to produce at an even higher level.

Why The Nuggets Can Cover The Spread

Article Continues Below

The Nuggets have won three of their last five and seemingly hang in every game that Nikola Jokic plays. Denver comes into play Thursday as the No. 8 seed in the Western Conference, and as a perennial contender the last few seasons they will be looking to improve on that to be sure. They are just 1.5 games behind the No. 4 spot, and a win Thursday would be a good start at moving up the ladder for the long haul. Denver will be at a rest disadvantage on Thursday after picking up an overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Wednesday night. Denver is 5-8 on the road this season but they are 3-2 on their current road trip. They finish the trip with this game and another matchup with the Spurs in San Antonio on Saturday, so they will be looking to clinch a winning trip with a win on Thursday.

The Nuggets are 10-14 vs. the spread so far this season.

Why The Spurs Can Cover The Spread

San Antonio will be looking to stop a two-game losing streak when they play the Nuggets on Thursday. The Spurs have had a bit of a rough start to the season as they have lost 15 of their first 23 games. They are a young team who has played a lot of close games, but hasn't quite figured out how to win. Derrick White has scored 24 points or more in three of his last five games, and Dejounte Murray has continued to have a strong season at point guard for the Spurs. Keldon Johnson and Devin Vassell are doubtful Thursday for the Spurs.

San Antonio is 13-10 against the spread this season.

Final Nuggets-Spurs Prediction & Pick

The Nuggets are on a back-to-back and have not released their injury report so this is sort of a tough call. Jokic being out would obviously change things quite a bit. Assuming Jokic is in, take the Nuggets to cover and win vs. the Spurs on Thursday. Jokic will by far be the best player on the floor in this one, so he should be able to gut out a win vs. a young Spurs team. The Spurs may have more legs however so if the Nuggets come out sluggish, things could go south.

Final Nuggets-Spurs Prediction & Pick: Nuggets +2 (-110)
