Why The Trail Blazers Could Cover The Spread
While the Blazers have been terrible this season, they deserve a little bit more respect than this spread is giving them. The Spurs aren't exactly a great team, and this is an absolutely huge spread. San Antonio has never entered a game as this big of a favorite. The spread is also inflated because of a recent hot streak from the Spurs, something that has to come to an end eventually. Overall, it's hard to trust a mediocre San Antonio team to cover such a huge number.
Home court advantage will actually play against the Spurs in this game. They've been one of the few teams that has actually been worse at home, as they've earned a 14-24 record on their home floor and a 17-21 record anywhere else. San Antonio also has a 17-21 record against the spread at home. Now they're being asked to cover the biggest spread of the season in an arena that they've struggled in all year long.

The overall talent difference between these two teams is astounding. The Trail Blazers are set to deploy Brandon Williams, CJ Elleby, Elijah Hughes, Greg Brown III, and Drew Eubanks as their five starters. That has to be the worst starting group in the entire NBA, and their bench isn't any better. The Spurs outclass this Portland team by a mile, and they showed it when they played them last. It helps that the Spurs have been playing fantastic basketball lately. They just had a four-game winning streak snapped in a heartbreaking loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, one of the best teams in the league. It's fair to say that this is the best basketball San Antonio has played all season long, and now they face a team that they just blew out a couple of games ago. Momentum is a proven factor in basketball, and the Spurs have tons of it in their favor here.
