Why The Warriors Could Cover The Spread
At the beginning of the season, the Golden State Warriors were immediately one of the top teams in the league. Since then they have had their ups and downs, but have managed to remain competitive. Through 72 games they have a winning record of 47-25. However, in spite of their many successes, this team has been struggling recently. The Warriors are coming off a four-point loss to one of the worst teams in the NBA, the Orlando Magic. If Golden State wants to take down the Heat they will need to step things up. While injuries may be a large contributor to their struggles, this Warriors team has enough pieces to be competitive. Expect the Warriors to try and turn things up on Wednesday and snatch a win.
The Warriors were extremely disappointing in their loss to the Magic. Not only should Golden State have won that game, but they should have done so handily. The Warriors were down at halftime and managed to put up a dominant third quarter to gain a nine-point lead going into the fourth. Then, in the last quarter of the game, the Magic stepped up and Golden State choked. If the Warriors are going to lose to teams like Orlando then they have no shot against a team like the Heat. This Warriors team needs to figure out their problems if they want to go back to being a competitive team.
Article Continues BelowCurrently, this Warriors team has three injured players. Stephen Curry, James Wiseman, and Andre Iguodala are all listed as out. Obviously, the most notable absence is Curry. Curry is the face of the Warriors franchise, and this team feels his absence. However, the roster still has enough talent that they should be a better team than they've been without Curry. If the Warriors want to win on Wednesday then they need to start filling in the gaps.
Why The Heat Could Cover The Spread
The Miami Heat have been a very solid team this season. Through 72 games they have the exact same record as Golden State, 47-25. The Heat are coming off a tough seven-point loss to the Sixers. While Miami may have come up short in that match, Philly is a team that can't even be compared to the Magic who just beat the Warriors. The Heat will look to turn things around on Wednesday against a vulnerable Warriors team. Miami should be able to come out on top, but this will still be a tough match. The Warriors may be without Steph, but they still have the likes of Klay Thompson, Draymond Green, Andrew Wiggins, etc. This should be a good game, but if Miami comes in ready then they should end up on top.
Miami should have been able to take down the crippled Sixers team they faced on Monday. Philly was without Embiid and Harden, yet the Heat still came up short. That's not a good look for Miami, who is trying to establish themselves as a team looking to make a deep run this year. The Heat will get a chance to redeem themselves against the Warriors.
The biggest roadblock for Miami in this match is injuries. There are lots of questions surrounding the health of this team and the availability of many players on the roster. Currently, the Heat have five players listed on their injury report. Of those players, four are listed as questionable for the match. The availability of those players will have huge implications for the outcome of this game. Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, and Victor Oladipo are all questionable for the match. It will be very interesting to see their status closer to game time and how that affects the spread.
Final Warriors-Heat Prediction & Pick
This is a tough pick. There are so many uncertainties surrounding this match-up. If the Warriors are finally able to figure things out without Curry, then they should be able to keep this game close. If the Heat are missing all their questionable players for this match then Miami will likely struggle. While this may all be up in the air, betting on injured players to play is a losing move. The Heat should cover without the Warriors' starters.
FINAL WARRIORS-HEAT PICK: Miami Heat -10 (-110)
