Why The Blue Jackets Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Columbus Blue Jackets aren't going to make the playoffs this season, but they can always walk away from the season on a high note. The Jackets have 63 points so far, landing them 13 points outside of the playoffs, but they haven't rolled over just yet. The Jackets are on a two-game winning streak but lost star, Boone Jenner for a while due to a back issue. Columbus is allowing 3.67 goals per game, which is the third-highest, but tied for ninth in scoring with 3.25 goals per game.

Since coming back from injury, goaltender Elvis Merzlikins has started seven of eight games for Columbus where he'll be the assumed starter for tonight. On the season, Merzlikins is allowing 3.44 goals per game with a save percentage of .902 percent. He'll have to try and keep the Jackets close in this one if he wants to get another two points and keep this winning streak alive for his team.

Why The Senators Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Ottawa Senators are nowhere near a playoff spot this season as they've failed to put together the breakthrough season that they were hoping for. Injuries have held them back, but the Senators haven't gone down without a fight as they tend to be a very pesky team and win by wearing down their opponents throughout the game. Starting in net tonight for the Senators will be Anton Forsberg, as he's proven to be a reliable option for Ottawa. On the season, Forsberg has a .916 save percentage and allows 2.83 goals per game. He'll have to try and keep it low scoring tonight in order to keep the Senators in this matchup.

Final Blue Jackets-Senators Prediction & Pick

When two inconsistent teams like this matchup, it's never easy to predict the result. Both of these teams aren't very good on defense and can somewhat find the back of the net when they need to. The last time these two teams met, Ottawa came out on top, 2-1 where Forsberg got the credit for a win. But that game was back in January, and these teams have played better since then. Give me the over in this game, I know it's risky considering their history, but I think they can both put the biscuit in the basket. I think it'll be a close game, but regardless, give me the over.

Final Blue Jackets-Senators Prediction and Pick: Over 6 (-128)
