The Los Angeles Kings will head into Denver tonight to take on the league leader in points, the Colorado Avalanche. The Kings come into this game on the second half of a back-to-back set where they beat up on Chicago last night, 5-2, and are now three points ahead of the Golden Knights in the Pacific Division standings. The Avalanche are still the best team in the league in terms of points, and they get another opportunity to improve on it here tonight even after already clinching a playoff position. It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Kings-Avalanche prediction and pick.

Why The Kings Can Cover The Spread/Win
Article Continues BelowThe Los Angeles Kings have come a long way this season, dealing with injuries left and right, but still being able to find a spot in the playoffs, if all goes according to plan. The Kings have some pretty underrated defense, but with Dre Doughty and Mikey Andersen being out with injuries, it puts a damper on their control of the game. Because the Kings are on the tail end of a back-to-back set, goaltender Cal Petersen will likely get the start between the pipes tonight. He's been playing decently well recently, but still allows 2.79 goals against per game with a .899 save percentage on the season. He'll look to try his best against an extremely difficult Avalanche squad tonight.
Why The Avalanche Can Cover The Spread/Win
The Colorado Avalanche have also been dealing with injuries this late in the season as team captain Gabriel Landeskog and Nazem Kadri remain sidelined until the playoffs. But the Avs don't seem to worry as they are still finding ways to win games. Their defensive core is now the deepest in the league with Sam Girard and Bowen Byram now back in the mix. Star goaltender Darcy Kuemper will get the starting nod tonight, who has been playing outstanding in the net lately. Throughout the season, Kuemper is averaging a .926 save percentage while allowing 2,37 goals against per game. He'll look to keep his hot streak going as they defend home ice against the Kings tonight.
Final Kings-Avalanche Prediction & Pick
Both of these teams are playoff clubs, and could very well see each other deeper in the postseason, but the Avalanche are simply just a better team than the Kings this season. It's almost scary how good the Avs are compared to the rest of the western conference. The only teams that could genuinely compete are on the east coast, in my own personal opinion. With that said, I think they get another win tonight, further solidifying home-ice advantage in the playoffs. However, the odds for the Avs to win aren't so great, so I'm going to take their odds of winning in regulation (otherwise known as the 3Way Moneyline), listed right now at -165. Again, not the greatest odds, but it's free money.
Final Kings-Avalanche Prediction and Pick: Avalanche 3Way Moneyline (-165)
