The Los Angeles Kings travel across the country into Boston tonight to take on the Bruins for the second and final time that these teams will face each other this season. In the first battle, the Bruins trampled the Kings with a 7-0 victory just a week ago. The Kings are currently second in the Pacific Division and are 7-3 in their last 10 matchups. The Bruins have also been pretty hot lately, on a two-game winning streak, and have gone 7-2-1 in their 10 as they look to jump out of their wild card position and into a top-three spot in the Atlantic Division. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Kings-Bruins prediction and pick.

Why The Kings Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Los Angeles Kings have pleasantly shocked the rest of the hockey world as they sneakily have been a fantastic team so far this season after most people assumed this year would have been another rebuilding year for the Kings. They currently sit in second in the Pacific with a nice 69 points, as they look to improve on their winnings again tonight. While they don't score a ton of goals (2.93 goals per game), the Kings do a great job at generating offense, regardless of their special teams being a downfall; scoring 16.2% of the time on the power play and a rough 75.3% success rate on the penalty kill.

Since Cal Petersen was in the net on Sunday to shut out the Sabres, we can expect to see veteran goaltender Jonathan Quick in between the pipes tonight. He's allowing 2.68 goals per game with a .908 save percentage. He will be relied on heavily tonight to shut down the Bruins and come away with a victory.

Why The Bruins Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Boston Bruins always somehow find a way to be in the playoff talks year after year and after a rough exit in last year's playoffs, the Bruins are back, but now both deep and healthy. They currently sit in the first wild card position for the Eastern Conference but look to jump into a top-three spot in the Atlantic with a win here tonight. The Bruins have done a great job on the offensive end, scoring 3.02 goals per game, 16th in the league, and scoring 24.2 percent of the time while on the power play. On defense, the Bruins are one of the best in the league, allowing just 2.68 goals per game, and are successful 81.8 percent of the time when they're shorthanded.

It's unofficial who will get the starting spot in net tonight, as we can assume it would be Jeremy Swayman, but Linus Ullmark hasn't played in a week, so it could come down to a game-time decision. Either goaltender would be a good option for the Bruins as they're both more than willing to take on the Kings.

Final Kings-Bruins Prediction & Pick

These two teams are very solid on defense and have good goaltending to back them up. The Kings are most likely seeking revenge on Boston for their loss last week, but this game will still be very close. I think Boston's ability to score goals on the power play is really going to be the key tonight, regardless if the Kings take very few penalties. I like the Bruins at home here, but give it to me in a 3-Way Moneyline for some extra value tossed on in there.

Final Kings-Bruins Prediction and Pick: Bruins 3-Way Moneyline (-130)
