The Nashville Predators will head into Minnesota tonight to take on their Central Division rival in the Wild. These two teams have faced off just once this season and Nashville ended up walking away with a victory. These teams are also just two points apart from each other in the standings, and the winner will determine who will be in the third-place spot or the number one wild card spot. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Predators-Wild prediction and pick.

Why The Predators Can Cover The Spread/Win

Article Continues Below

The Nashville Predators have been trending in the right direction lately as they've slowly climbed the ladder towards a top-three spot in the Central Division. The Predators enter this game on the tail end of a back-to-back series after a 7-4 loss to the Blues last night. However, the Preds have scored three or more goals in six out of the last nine games, so they tend to keep their games high scoring. Overall the Predators have looked like a playoff-worthy team, especially when it comes to their goaltending.

Star netminder, Juuse Saros started last night, giving up five goals, so we can expect to see backup David Rittich get the start tonight. He's only played in eight games this season and is sporting a .890 save percentage and allowing 3.17 goals against per game. He'll need to stand on his head tonight against a Wild team who isn't afraid to pepper shots on the net all night long.

Why The Wild Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Minnesota Wild come into this game off of a shootout loss to the Blue Jackets on Friday, ending their mini two-game winning streak. The Wild have been struggling since the All-Star break and have slid down to third in the division, now in danger of moving down even further to a wild-card position with a loss tonight. But no need to fear as the Wild start a nine-game homestand (you read that correctly) tonight which is where they play best anyway. While in their own building, the Wild are 17-7 straight up, one of the better home records in the league.

Starting in net tonight for the Wild would more than likely be starter Cam Talbot, as he is now sporting a .906 save percentage and allowing 3.00 goals against per game. He'll have his work cut out for him against a high-scoring Nashville team tonight.

Final Predators-Wild Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams know how to score goals and definitely have the weapons for it too. Both goaltenders are also allowing three-plus goals per game, which is astonishingly high, especially for an All-Star goaltender in Cam Talbot. I think it's going to be a high-scoring game tonight on both ends of the ice, and a winner could go either way. So give me over 6.5 goals in this matchup.

Final Predators-Wild Prediction and Pick: Over 6.5 (-110)
