Why The Rangers Can Cover The Spread/Win
Article Continues BelowThe New York Rangers haven't necessarily been playing their greatest hockey as of late, going 3-3-0 in their last six games, but it's nothing really to scoff at. The Rangers are a very solid team who is most likely looking to buy at the trade deadline (Monday) to try and get a deep run into the playoffs.
With a superstar goaltender in Igor Shesterkin guarding your net, there's not much to worry about except for a lack of offensive production to help him out. He should be getting the start again tonight as he's the runaway favorite for the Vezina Trophy this year. Shesterkin is 29-8-3 overall and is sporting a spectacular .938 save percentage while only allowing 2.07 goals per game throughout his 40 games played. He'll look to keep rolling tonight against a very tough Lightning team.
Why The Lightning Can Cover The Spread/Win
On Friday, the Tampa Bay Lightning were able to acquire Brandon Hagel from Chicago in a huge trade, sending away two first-round picks and a few prospects. Unless travel protocols get involved, tonight should be the first game Hagel will have with the Lightning, as he will look to be a huge addition to their middle-six forwards. The Lightning are six points out of the top spot in the Atlantic Division, and also only one point ahead of the Maple Leafs, as the dog-days of the season are upon us.
Superstar goaltender, Andrei Vasilevskiy will look to get yet another win for the Lightning tonight as he has been tremendous, per usual. His stats don't exactly represent the amount of impact he has on the team with a .919 save percentage and a 2.37 goals-against average. He'll look to lead this Lighting team to two more points as they try and pull away from Toronto in the standings.
Final Away-Home Prediction & Pick
This is one of those games where it could go either way. Outstanding goaltending on both sides of the ice makes this very difficult to decide the winner. However, the Lightning are clearly trying to win now and three-peat the Stanley Cup after trading away so much value for Hagel. It's a little bit of a risky move, but I'm going to take the Under 5.5 total in this game. If you follow my picks, you'll know that I hate taking unders because they are so unpredictable, but these goaltenders are a different breed in this league. I think this game comes down to a 2-1 or 3-2 game. With that, I think the Rangers covering +1.5 points will be very possible, but give me the under 5.5 total goals.
Final Away-Home Prediction and Pick: Under 5.5 (-102)
